As part of my South Africa orientation session this weekend, I had to attend a religious service with which I was unfamiliar (we were applying concepts of learning how best to enter and exit new and relatively foreign settings in a respectful fashion), so I visited a Greek Orthodox congregation.
It was fucking amazing.
My question, then, is this: Who of you out there might be interested in attending some other religious institutions in the area? I'm really into the idea of exploring a wide range, from Methodist to Hindu. Although I realize that Sunday morning sleep-in time is precious ;), I really think this would be worthwhile. And as the weather gets warmer and the days become lighter much earlier, I think it'll be easier to roll out of bed. (Plus many of the services take place at a variety of times, with some as late as 11:00 or 11:30, thank goodness!) So who's interested?!
Some of my top choices (i.e., those I'd like to visit soon):
---Jewel Heart Tibetan Buddhist Center
---First Church of Christ (Scientology)
---Bethel African Methodist Episcopal
---First Baptist
---Baha'i of Ypsilanti Township
---Zen Buddhist Temple
---Friends Meeting (Quaker)
---Chinmaya Mission Ann Arbor (Hindu)
---Salvation Army
---Karma Thegsum Choling
---Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth
---Korean Church of Ann Arbor
Okay, so I have a list of 32 different places and I pretty much want to visit all of them (Catholic churches excepted due to the fact that I've had plenty of exposure to them). Leave a comment if you're even slightly intrigued by this suggestion and I'll set it up! :)
