At last.

Ok so I am well underway with by Sleeping Beauty icons. Those should be -hopefully- up by the end of the weekend. I've got about twenty-two done and I hope to accomplish at least fifty.
Today I went to see Pineapple Express starring one of my favorite Canadian actors, Seth Rogen. It was absolutely hilarious. Anyone who enjoyed the humor from Superbad or Knocked will love this movie. James Franco was genius as the pot-dealer, he kept making me laugh. Ok an now for the business.
This is my last -current- requested tutorial. It was requested by navi_glow.

Program: Photoshop CS2
Involves: Selective Color, Channel Mixer, Levels, 'Smudging'
Level: Intermediate, depending on the image.

SHANNON RUTHERFORD TUTORIAL.
So I started with this picture of Shannon from Lost.

1. I moved my picture down on my canvas to get the cropping I wanted. The black space is actually blank canvas.

2. Duplicate your base image and set the duplicate to 'Screen'. I used 75% opacity but if your image is still too light then adjust the opacity.

to

3. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #2b2109 change the layer to 'Exclusion' and adjust the opacity accordingly. I used 100% but if your images loses too much contrast then lower the opacity.

to

4. Create a new selective color layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Selective color). I used the following settings. This layer will enhance the cyans and greens in your image.
Reds: -23, -12, +30, +29
Greens: +100, +100, -100, 0
Cyans: +98, +43, +91, 0
Blues: -45, -42, +87, 0
Whites: -13, -32, -35, +28
Neutrals: +21, +11, +9, +5

to

5. Create a new channel mixer layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Channel mixer). I used the following settings. This layer will brighten then highlighted greens.
Red: +117, -32, +22
Green: -22, +126, +2
Blue: +26, -24, +115

to

6. Create a new selective color layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Selective color). I used the following settings. This layer will enhance the reds and greens in your image.
Reds: -32, -10, +20, +25
Yellows: +39, +12, -21, +10
Greens: +54, -34, +28, +7
Cyans: -50, +12, +29, 0

to

7. Create a new selective color layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Selective color). I used the following settings. This layer will give some much needed color back to the reds and yellows of the image.
Reds: +27, +18, +20, 0
Yellows: -75, -12, +55, 0
Greens: +24, -16, +22, 0
Cyans: +10, +23, +37, 0

to

8. Create a new channel mixer layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Channel mixer). I used the following settings. This layer drastically highlights the greens of the image, if you find it to overpowering lower the 'Blue' setting in the 'Green' category.
Red: +98, +4, +3
Green: -5, +95, +18
Blue: +3, -4, +103

to

9. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #322d2c change the layer to 'Exclusion' and adjust the opacity accordingly. I used 100% but if your images loses too much contrast then lower the opacity.

to

10. Duplicate your base image and set the duplicate to 'Soft Light'. I left mine at 100% opacity but every image is different. Some will be too dark or contrasted, if that is the case then lower the opacity.

to

11. Create a new levels layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Levels). I used the following settings. The levels layer will slightly brighten the image and add some contrast.
RGB:
Input- 13, 1.17, 255
Output- 0, 250

to

12. Create a new brightness/contrast layer (Layers - New adjustment layer - Brightness/contrast). I used the following settings. I lowered my opacity to 12%, I used this layer for -slight additional contrast
Brightness: +2
Contrast: +24

to

13. Ok here is where it gets difficult. -_- If you follow my tutorial for the technique (found here) then you should have no problem.

to

14. Create a new layer and fill it with a gradient using these two colors - #fbdc31 and #fcc013. Set the layer to 'Color Dodge' at 8%. This will add a hue of yellow to the image.

to

15. Create a new channel mixer layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Channel mixer). I used the following settings. The result will darken the image, but don't worry we will fix that.
Red: +89, +0, +0
Green: +0, +87, +0
Blue: +0, -6, +100

to

16. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #322d2c change the layer to 'Difference' and adjust the opacity accordingly. I set this layer to 20% opacity, if it is to dark than lower the opacity.

to

17. Duplicate your altered 'blurred' image and bring it to the top of the previous layer. Set the layer to 'Screen' I set my opacity to 18%, adjust yours accordingly.

to

18. Take this texture

Set the layer to 'Pin light' at 13% opacity.

to

19. Take the texture from the previous layer and duplicate it. Set the layer to 'Multiply' and adjust the opacity to 11%.

to

20. Create a new selective color layer (Layer - New adjustment layer - Selective color). I used the following settings. This step will increase the quality of the cyans in your image.
Cyans: +100, +45, +51, +33
Blacks: +2, 0, 0, +12

to

21. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #d0cdcd change the layer to 'Linear Burn' and adjust the opacity accordingly. I used 76% but if your image is to dark then lower the opacity.

to

22. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #d0cdcd change the layer to 'Color Burn' and adjust the opacity accordingly. I used 100% but if your image is to dark then lower the opacity.

to

23. Create a new brightness/contrast layer (Layers - New adjustment layer - Brightness/contrast). I used the following settings.
Brightness: +0
Contrast: +14

to

24. Fill a new layer with a gradient with these two colors #424242 and #000000. I set the layer to 'Lighten' and left the opacity at 100%. The layer will cover any black on your icon with the hazy gray color, if you find the effect to strong lower the opacity.

to

25. To highlight the background I took a soft-edged brush at about 15 px and put a white blob at two locations. I set the layer to 'Screen' and lowered the opacity to 10%. The blob will look REALLY bad if the opacity remains above 20%, subtle is key.

Wow that was long... Any questions/comments? Don't be afraid to post them. I would love to see your results.
