Falling Down. Tutorial

Jun 01, 2008 21:25

Hey I thought I would post this tutorial because it is one of my favourite icons from my last post. Using PS CS2, not translatable because of the curve, selective color, and color balance layers. Follow the cut.

Going from
to --

1. Select your image, I chose an image of John Locke, it is during his flashback. Your image should be on the brighter side with some greens and cyans. Prep your base by duplicating the base image and setting the duplicate to 'Screen' I set my opacity too 42%.

2. Create a new Color Balance layer (Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Color Balance) and use the following settings-
Midtones: +17, +20, -35
Shadows: -2, -10, -4
Highlights: -1, -11, -26

3. Create a new Selective Color layer (Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Selective Color) and use the following settings-
Reds: -65, +5, +5, +35
Yellows: -5, -3, -2, +4
Greens: +68, -90, +71, +4
Cyans: +78, -5, -97, 0
Whites: +38, -5, +2, 0
Neutrals: +34, 0, -18, -4
If you are finding your results way to green than lower the settings in the greens and neutrals.

4. Create and new layer and fill it with #97e6da and set the layer to 'Color Burn' I set the opacity to about 45%.

5. Create a new Hue/Saturation layer (Layer - New Adjustment Layer - Hue/Saturation) and turn the master saturation up to +18.

6. Create a new layer and fill it with #7b7b7b and set the layer to 'Luminostiy' I set the opacity at 22%.

7. Ok so the actual tutorial is all done! I sharpened my image by selecting the entire image (Ctrl+A) and copying the whole image (Shift+Ctrl+C) and pasting it (Ctrl+V) I went to Filter - Sharpen - Sharpen and lowered the opacity of the layer until it looked right.

If you have any comments feel free to leave them, I would also love to see your results!
