This is why I love the man...
I've been catching up on stuff on Neil Gaiman's blog and I came across a little tidbit of information. Someone asked him what he thought of Eoin Colfer writing the next Hitchhiker's book. After giving his support to Eoin and saying that he thought it would be good, though not like Douglas Adams, he then went on to say this (emphasis mine):
"For the record, if I don't get around to writing a sequel to something while I'm alive, I'd very much rather that nobody else does it once I'm dead. It should exist in your head or in Lucien's library, or in fanfic. But that's me, and not every author feels the same way."
Not only is he one of the best authors I know and a wonderful person, but he's also supportive of fanfic?! Is it possible to adore him even more?
Why, yes, yes it is. In an earlier blog, he listed all the cool stuff he got in the mail and one of them was a foreign copy of Good Omens (which if you haven't read this, GO NOW) with, "the slashiest cover of Good Omens I've seen to date."
