{The egg has hatched and the PCD is now being examined by a baby fire lizard. Releasing a high-pitched squeal, the baby picks up the PCD and trots to someone who is far more familiar: one Lily Evans Potter. She gives him a sweet smile and rubs over his head.}

Thank you, love. Are you trying to help? {The PCD is waved up and down as the baby ( Read more... )

Is that a wand? Did you still need dragon heartstring? I found someone who had some to spare, and I set some aside for you. [And Lily is very lucky that Hermione knows she wouldn't do anything to a baby dragon, or else she would be side-eying her so hard right now.]

No, I found someone who will supply me with Unicorn tail hairs. That was the core of my last wand. {She would never! What kind of sadist would hurt a baby?}

Oh, all right, then. I'll just keep what I have as a fresher store, then, in case I find something that works for me. [A regular sadist, one would think.]

Did you strike across some sort of breakthrough?

That sounds like a good idea. {Like, say, Voldemort?}

I remember the length of my wand; I remember how it felt in my hand. I am simply trying to copy Ollivander's work through memory.

... I don't know how well knowing simply the externals without understanding the craftsmanship is going to work, but I wish you nothing but the best of luck. If it works, I shall be calling you for advice.

I'd like to start somewhere. Who knows? This might work out. I don't need a perfect wand. I'd settle for a functional one.

True enough. I was terrible attached to my old one. Sometimes people uncover supplies with no knowledge of where they'd come from, so I like to think that objects can find their way here too, eventually. Maybe someone will find a spare wand; even if it's not mine, I'm sure it would make wand-making an easier task.

As was I. {A wistful sigh.} That would be wonderful. I'm not counting on it, though. The Animus don't seem to like being too generous. {Or they transform generosity into over-kill.}

We can always hope, though. Sometimes, it's all we can do.
