Two Dreams

Ok I had two dreams I must tell about.

One was two nights ago. It started out as an anxiety dream - I often have them where I'm getting ready for something by a certain time and I need to pack or gather belongings, but I keep forgetting things and taking too long and end up about to miss the obligation as I wake up.

Well, in this one, I was packing for a camping trip with some old high school buddies - Ethan, Kayla, Alec, Jeff Chan, Lisa, and someone else. Ethan particularly was like "Susan, hurry up!" since we had to catch a bus. But - here's the difference. They all helped me pack! We were still a little late, but whatever. Then my parents scolded me for taking a camping trip that was clearly just to do drugs, but that ended ok. Then I went into Ethan's car which would take us to the train station - and found out he was just going to end up driving there and it would probably be better anyway because we missed the train but oh well - and it turns out the car fit like TWENTY people and they were all kids who were questionably friendly to me in high school but it was all warm and loving and it was incredible. I woke up for the actual camping began.

The other dream was last night. I was with a bunch of people who were preparing something - I forget - and I brought my video camera to record it. I turn around - and it's gone! There was some very important footage on the particular tape in there of family recordings that my dad told me about but I hadn't really seen, so I was freaking out. I finally started crying and yelled at everyone and said that if someone would just return it to me, I wouldn't be mad, I just needed it back. I stormed out of the room. It was in a mall, for some reason.

Mal - of all people? - walked out and got some change from a kiosk. She turned to me and admitted that she worked for a woman who ran a stolen video camera ring. (And for some reason this connected with another dream I had where I was visiting someone in a cardboard box.) I was so relieved - Mal was like you're really not upset? And I said of course, but I'm so much more relieved to have it back.

So we get to the office of this woman, and there's a secretary. Mal tells me I have to ask for Ann Corwicke (?) and give the secretary a dime and four pennies, which Mal had gotten. So I give the secretary this and ask for Ann, and it works. Ann comes out and is totally composed. I ask her for my video camera back - she says she has no idea what I am talking about, and actually plays it very smoothly. But then I say, "I believe we have an intermediary in common" (which is basically what Alma said to Bree on DH but whatevs) and Ann sighed and said alright, but can you blame us? We usually just steal from preppy girls who can afford it - or from people on special orders. You were a special order.

She pulls out frames and a DVD. It turns out, part of the business is to steal videotapes for clients and put together a package of the clips they want. So all the pictures and DVD footage were of my family, from the family video I hadn't seen. Most if it I had - pictures of my mom and me as a kid, etc. But there was one point where I saw a group of men standing, and among them was my grandpa - he looked like my mom's father at 70 but was actually my dad's father at 20 for some reason - and I figured it out, and Ann confirmed, that it was a distant family member who wanted to learn about my dad's family from afar. Ann said she couldn't trace the person who ordered it, but we agreed that she'd send them the footage and a note from me, and I got my video camera back.

So it was wonderful. It was the most wonderful glow in the world - to know my dad's family was out there and interested in us. My grandma came over from Latvia and lost touch with all her sisters save one, who it seems she had lost touch with in recent years. We don't know anything about them. I think my dad has addresses but he's not fessing up. So, to know - that they're ok - and want to be with us - was wonderful.
