So cold. So very, very cold.
I went up to Yosemite this weekend for a conference for environmental and outdoor educators (AEOE). The conference was great. Very well organized yet super-chill. It was really nice to be around people who are as geeky about games, stupid jokes, and figuring out what altitude yellow pines grow at in the sierras vs. the san bernadinos as I am. I also have a stronger resolve for why I do this work, just as it was starting to flag in the face of the difficulty of finding full-time work that pays a living wage. What a wonderful community of people!
But OMG, it was so freaking cold! So cold that I could not wait to leave Yosemite. Yosemite is quite possibly my favorite place in the world. I am so glad to be away from there and back in a building. It snowed on us! In October! It didn't stick, but still. Last week, I was about 30 miles north, 4,000 degrees higher, and it was about 35 degrees warmer! Seriously. I did not bring enough warm clothing. And even if I had, it was the kind of cold that goes all the way through. Most of the weekend, I had on 7 layers on top, 3 on bottom, 2 pairs of socks, and I was still cold. When we did a campfire program last night, we had to act like the penguins in March of the Penguins and constantly rotate who got to be closest to the fire.
I'm also very bummed because I thought I'd be back around 5 but instead got back around 7. This was just too late for me to shower, change, eat food, and take public transit to Burning Man decompression, which I was really, really excited about. A whole bunch of friends are there right now, but I'm just so tired from not sleeping because I was too cold all weekend.
Dinner time.
P.S. There's a boy I like. We go on our first official date Tuesday night. Wish me luck.
