Women Authors

I generally don't enjoy women authors. Anne Frank is a (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) exception. When I was little, Judy Blume and Ann M. Martin were exceptions. I honestly can't think of anyone else off the top of my head. I enjoyed "Emma" I suppose- that was Jane Austen- but it didn't make me run out to get any others by her. I enjoyed the "Handmaid's Tale" a lot, but not any other Margaret Atwood books I tried after it.

But today ::trumpets blaring:: I have found a woman author that I really enjoy! Barbara Kingsolver. I'm reading Animal Dreams right now and it is wonderful. Huzzah.

This is especially heartening because I would like to be an author one day and was starting to worry that I wouldn't enjoy my own work.

Anyone have any other favorite lady authors I should try?

List of some of my favorite authors, for reference:
Orson Scott Card
Daniel Quinn
Jon Krakauer
Neal Stephenson
Paulo Coelho
Neil Gaiman
Dan Millman
Piers Anthony (he's mostly on the list for nostalgia's sake)

Nostalgia made me realize that two of my favorite books as a kid, The Castle in the Attic and The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles were also written by women, the latter by !Julie Andrews! though she uses her maiden name of Edwards.
I wonder what the difference is between kid lit. and adult lit. for me?
