prince and my quarter-life crisis.

OMFG rachel, erin, and i all got pre-sale tickets to prince's aftershow at first ave tonight! yes! last night they released fifty tickets in a super-secret ordeal that was only available to people in the know. luckily, erin's step-dad happens to be friends w/ the manager so he hooked us up. the rest of the tickets go on sale today at 3pm--there were lines already forming outside the club at 10pm last night. ahhhh! today i am going to go shopping for an outrageous outfit, listen to prince all day, and watch purple rain.

oh yeah, i'm back in minnesota now. for about...the next month and a half. it's comforting in a sad way to know that all my friends and classmates are also experiencing their quarter-life crises. our personal hells. i think my response has been mostly productive, if not a little aimless. my family and i are going to be visiting india for a cousin's wedding in mid-august and i've decided to stay on afterward. i'll engage private tutors for telugu literature, miniature painting, and yoga and live in hyderabad until at least next february. i am doing this because i think improving my telugu [i.e. becoming literate] will drastically improve my chances for phd admission. by studying telugu i will have gained currency in three, rather than two, indian languages: telugu, tamil, sanskrit. but i'm also doing this, more importantly, because i want to live in india for an extended period of time, by myself, without the mediation of my immediate family. we'll see what happens, this may only allay rather than alleviate my current crisis.
