Swashbuckling

Dear friends/nerds,

If you wanted to introduce someone (let's say a fiancee) to the concept of 'swashbuckling' (let's say to support the assertion that 7th Sea is an awful lot of fun) by showing them one film, what would you choose?

Currently, I'm thinking 'Brotherhood of the Wolf'.

Zorro is a good point. But I actually think Brotherhood of the Wolf encapsulates 7th Sea very well.

And what - you're surprised at my lack of film knowledge now? :-p

Pirates of the Carribbean
Princess Bride
Zorro

NOT Brotherhood, which is a very cool film, but I just can't equate with 7th Sea. I'm not a huge fan of Sinbad either. You could, however, do worse than show her Count of Monte Cristo, and Prisoner of Zenda. Both contain a certain amount of swashing.

Pah, they are all silly ideas. If you want a proper Montaigne swashbuckling feel, then you absolutely have to go for the Three Musketeers - our group watched the version with Tim Curry as Cardinal Richeleu. On a side note, we found the viewing experience was significantly enhanced (if you can enhanced an already brilliant experience) by everyone humming the imperial march whenever Curry is walking anywhere.

But then again, that might just be us...

In Order

The Crimson Pirate, (Is the Best Pirate Film)
The Princess Bride, (Needs no reason)
The Three Musketeers (the Gene Kelly Version) (the best of the musketeer films)
Scaramouche (has the best "Fencing" Sword fight of any film)
The Sea Hawk, (Not the Best of Flynns films, but better the robin hood for pirates/Sea stuff)
