Pregnancy update - 30 weeks

I hadn't realised how different Gil's movements would feel as my pregnancy continued to develop. From the tiny little flutters at the start, to the sharper more insistent poke-pokes, the poke-drag, the octopus-playing-the-drums, the foot-on-bone-hey-stop-slumping-mummy feeling of a kick in the ribs, the whoops-looks-like-I-can't-bend-in-that- ( Read more... )

Oh! Is that the sister-in-law? The one I've met?

If her life was a TV show it is one that I would watch but probably feel guilty about how obsessed I was with it.

::squeals of delight:: Lily, I'm SOOOO happy for you!!! I was just beaming the whole time I reading this entire post. I remember when my sister was pregnant with her first child, she came to town for her baby shower. That night, she showed us how when Joseph moved, you could actually see the outline of his foot (or hand or whatever) against her stomach. Then she showed us how we could feel her belly to find him, with her stomach being soft in places he wasn't and hard in places where he was. Holding my hand against her belly and feeling Joseph's hiccups was totally bizarre -- and unbelievably awesome. I am just so thrilled for you!! I can't wait to see all these upcoming pictures. Here's hoping I'll get to enjoy at least a little bit of pregnancy with you!

I forgot to mention the hiccups! They're so incredibly small and cute - and *fast* - like one every second or two. I guess it's not like he'd be finding them frustrating because he's not exactly having to talk or do something else at the same time, but well... how annoying! I haven't yet seen the outline of anything nearly recognisable as a foot or a hand - generally I just look down and see that I've got 10% more belly on the left than I do on the right, or something like that and go - oh, hello! That's where you are today, is it? It would be *awesome* to see actual foot/hand outline ( ... )

Yeah, J's hiccups were really fast, too. I'm sure Melissa felt more of them than we did, of course, so we could really only feel the big ones.

Yeah, we could totally see the outline of his foot when he kicked my sister!! It was SOOO weird!! Seeing the actual outline of the body part -- knowing I was seeing a a *foot* -- was surreal. "Whoa, there's a PERSON inside of you!" I remember her talking about the sleep-wake cycles, too, and how he always seemed to be sleeping when people wanted to feel him kick and he wouldn't wake up for her. She used to say that she thought the rhythm of her waling and moving around lulled him to sleep and it was she was no longer moving that he would wake up and get active. Sounds like Gil is the same way. :-)

I shall look forward to that, then! And yes, I've heard that the rhythm of walking rocks babies to sleep, too - it certainly fits (well, mostly) with Gil's pattern.
