Gorgeous icons!

I wish I knew how you get mine so colorful and vibrant without taking away from the character's features. When it comes to color, I am absolutely horrible. Do you cut out the character and then add your background, PSDs, textures and stuff, or do you work with the whole pic, background and all? I'm merely curious because I've always wanted to learn how people make their icons so colorful, while making the person stand out so well.

I understand if you don't want to tell me, though. I know that a lot of people like to keep their techniques to themselves. I just thought I'd ask for help, anyways, since trying to learn it on my own has gotten me nowhere.

Anyways, I really do love your icons. I enjoy seeing them!
