This evening I am going to blather about the BBC

Nov 09, 2010 21:50

A meme (kinda?) based on Mitch Benn's 'I'm Proud of the BBC' song, which if you haven't seen/downloaded you really should. The BBC is my first and strongest love (I was listening to Radio 4 practically in the womb) so this was inevitable, really:

Below is a list of all the shows mentioned in Mitch Benn's I'm Proud of the BBC. Bold = love (or have loved) it, Plain text = neutral, Strike through = never seen / listened to.

Newsround - I used to hate this when I was little but it was news for kids, frankly that's an admirable undertaking.
Newsnight
iPlayer - single most useful thing ever.
Website - I'm on this basically every day to check the schedules/browse for Who news.

Dennis Potter
C-Beebies - I owe them for the ridiculously cute Timmy Time
Quatermass -
Two Ronnies
The Thick of It - So sweary and yet so funny. Watched series 3 religiously and formed a tiny fandom with my family as no irl fandom existed for me.

(everything on) Radio 4- Words cannot describe how much I love BBC Radio 4. It has been there all my life. I wake up to it, I have in on in the background more or less constantly throughout the day, and thanks to podcasts I often fall asleep to it too. It is ingrained in my vocabulary and my brain. The Goons, Round the Horne, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and The Now Show have built my sense of humour from the ground up. It's very fair to say i wouldn't be the person I am today without Radio 4.
Only Fools (and Horses)

Teletubbies
Life on Mars
Radcliffe and Maconie

John Peel- To end, an anecdote: once in a record shop in Brighton I stood next to John Peel for fully ten minutes and utterly failed to recognise one of the most famous DJs in Britain because I'd only ever heard his voice and I was engrossed in a comic. Good going, self.
