Although I think you might have the lyrics wrong on the first two lines--it's "Hey hey father, give me wine/Hey hey mother, hey hey mother", and unless 'modor' and 'faeder' are interchangeable, it looks like you've got mother/mother/father instead. But what do I know, I'm still surprised it looks so much like regular English anyway.

Honestly the penny only dropped when I turned on the subtitles so that I could hear what they were saying while my housemates were eating. Ad then Sigan started casting in OE! It was a funny moment for my brain, I can tell you that.

Beowulf was okay, it was The Wanderer that killed me. Page after page of moaning about the weather, of all things. And the grammar. *shudder*
