To keep you amused

Here is a really great Rita blog written by someone who has more time and a better camera than me. The big story now is people being stuck in traffic.

I was watching a press conference held with some city officials. I wasn't paying attention at first because Judy was lying across my lap and, well, I just can't concentrate when she is being so cuddly. So there were some Important Looking People standing around Mayor Bill White who was giving a press conference. Someone in the audience was questioning the mayor about the dilemma of the people stranded on the highways, and the question was made in such a way as to place blame on the mayor. He gave everyone a look as if to say "I'm going to beat the livin' tar outta any somebitch who wants to nitpick about how the hurricane was handled before it even gets here."

I love this guy.

He seems like a no-nonsense, salt of the earth kinda dude who would come over to your house and feed your cat while you're on vacation if you asked him to. He gets things done. He stays focused on his job. Trying to take charge of an impending disaster must be making him a little cranky. I commend him for smacking down any reporter for having the huevos to pick a fight with him when he's working so hard to keep people safe, and for helping people who were following instructions and got stuck. Good God, the hurricane isn't even here and already people are pointing fingers. Jeez! Can't something ever be nobody's fault? Can't people just be the victims of bad luck now and then without there being someone to take the blame.

I have liked him from the first time I found out about him, but he scored major points from me when he marched in the Houston Gay Pride parade. If you scroll down in the link you can see his shiny head in one of the photos.

He seems like the loveable, dorky guy who lives next door that you could talk about the weather with and borrow his power tools. I found it very tacky that someone was trying to find something bad in all the good work he has done and is doing to help people during a disaster. It made me grin when he shot a look at the reporter that said loud and clear that he wouldn't hesitate to open up a can of whup-ass on her for even thinking about turning this into a blame game.

The noive!
