Writing: Passing

Passing

Moments pass with voice and body in limbo,
time meaningless succession of light and dark outside a window.

A day is a year all going nowhere,
the sea close and unreachable and you wanted to go there.

Things you could do once but if you tried now you'd never reach it,
you forget it could be different so just sink deeper to meet it.

You're on the downside of the scale, but if you don't move you wont sink deeper.
So busy clinging on you miss the chance of climbing higher.

The devil you know you learn to live with, and it could always be harder.
Stamp out the fire enough and you forget it was ever warmer.

Tell yourself it's better this way and don't listen to yourself calling,
Limbs and tongues are no tools without learning.

Don't speak or move and stay under the radar
And you'll be in the grave already, saving time before it's over.
