Personal Rant on Merchandise Quality

So I like collecting some merchandise, mainly Firefly and now also Doctor Who and Torchwood. However I like to be a bit picky about what I get, sometimes just things for fun value and sometimes things because it really caught my attention/imagination on the show and I want it as a reminder of something I enjoy. Especially if it fits with things I already like.

The main example I'm getting to is with some Doctor Who stuff I got recently.

I got the Doctor's sonic screwdriver in several forms as well as the Master's laser screwdriver. They're fun, they light up and make noise and make me happy in that geeky way I love. I also saw available the Doctor's pocket watch from Human Nature/Family of Blood fame.

Now I really like pocket watches, they're beautiful instruments of precision and elegance and the Doctor's one was very lovely. Beautiful Gallyfrayen designs on the front and the watch face itself. Sweet I thought, ever since I saw it I thought that is something i want, so I order it and let me tell you. I want words with the BBC merchandise department.

You can get decent quality metal pocket watches from between £5 and £30. This one was about £11.99 and plastic with the Doctor's voice coming out of it when you press a button. Not the kind of fun I was looking for. I like that in my toy sonic screwdrivers, but goddamnit I want a proper pocket watch like the Doctor's and if it came with a copy of the Journal of Impossible Things that would be sweet indeed.

They could easily make a good quality version of both which would sell pretty well I reckon and would not be that expensive to produce. BBC get your finger out and fill my demand for some merchandise!
