Why are "join the Peace Corp" and "Stay in the United States as a self-indulgent fuck up" the only options?

At least have a back up plan if the Peace Corp doesn't accept you.

p.s. I've found it's never a good idea to plan one's life in 3rd person. It requires too much focus on what outsiders think. Focus on your own self-image, capacity, needs, wants.

Despite your "I'm you" mantra, the majority of the "you's" on the planet aren't going to be able to plan your life in a way that's most fitting to you. I mean, you do hate being bossed around.....

in moments when im feeling scared and weak and i dont know the right way to go, i love being bossed around. its like being a baby in the dark and all you want is your mommy. submissive to someone who will carry you over the river and through the woods, into the light.

thanks for commenting catherine, i really was asking for peoples advice thats why i said it in 3rd person and in questions. i hold your opinion in high regard.

yeah im sort of expecting them to reject me. but im curious as to what reasons they would have for doing so.

back-up plans include:
-getting a job (i think i might have a connection at an environmental law office, not bad huh?)
-going to UIC and getting my teachers certification then becoming a substitute or a full teacher
-teaching english in japan, which my friends and family seem to think is the best option for me. but i sorta dont like the capitalist aspect of teaching people english because its the only way they can succeed.

Someone (an international student from Uzbekistan who has spent the past 3 years in Wisconsin) told me he thought it showed good things about one's country when one was willing to go share one's culture and language with them in first person. (I had said the same thing about fearing cultural imperialism with TESL).

Maybe in Japan it is different because of the atom bomb and their succeeding rapid industrialization, but they also have icebergs worth of shifgrethor (pride / face / the intricate process of avoiding or bringing about loss of face is "playing shifgrethor" --origin "shadow"--a word from a country --Karhide-- on a planet in the Left Hand of Darkness. they also trust people with longer shadows more / of whom you can see the shadow ( ... )
