014: One Track Heart - A Rachel Berry Fanmix
Title: One Track Heart

Subject: Rachel Berry (with hints of Rachel/Finn and Rachel/Jesse)
The splendiferous marketchippie requested a Rachel Berry appreciation mix in my gift giving post on my personal LJ, and I was all too happy to oblige her. I was also quite intimidated by the request, as marketchippie is, like, the number one Rachel Berry stan I know (seriously, her meta on this girl is flawless) and she also happens to have exquisite taste in music. (I, on the other hand... frequently do not). So. I tried to capture the fascinating individual that is Rachel Fucking Berry as best I could. God this girl. This perfectly imperfect, stunning human who is a ball of insecurity, need, ambition, and narcissism wrapped up in ridiculousity. A delightful creature who lives her life as if every day were a performance. THIS GIRL. I love this girl. I hope I did her justice. The mix is primarily focused on her season one arc, though I think many of the songs remain applicable to her narrative in season two.
A few notes on some of the tracks: I debated not including "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked because I wasn't sure if a song from a Broadway show would fit with the rest of the mix. But come on. That song just screams Rachel, so how could I not include a theatrical mirror of Rachel's early relationship with Finn? Plus, it's sung by her friggen mom so I think she'd approve of its inclusion. I also agonized over which version of "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" to include. I ultimately went with The Smiths because, well, the original recipe version is my favourite and I thought it had more of a dramatic heft to it that suited Rachel nicely, because god knows the girl loves drama (also, I didn't want to leave Mr. Billy Joel all by his lonesome with his eighties-ness). I happen to have the She & Him and Muse versions on my computer, so give me a shout if you'd like either of those versions and I'd be happy to upload them for you. I'll shut up now.
