What I've Learned Since I Last Posted
Lesson 1: If you are going to get your hair cut, but not that much, do not tell people beforehand. They will only be disappointed in your lack of makeover. This is doubly true if they are imaginging that all of a sudden you are going to start using lots of product and blowdrying your hair.
Lesson 2: Do not listen to the Pushing Daisies haters. It is merely the most delightful show on TV right now. It is charming and offhandedly witty. There is great wordplay, lovely music and Lee Pace's smile. Do not be cynical. Just enjoy.
Lesson 3: Do try to see Josh Ritter at least once in your life. He will make you feel like you're lucky to be in a place where music is so fun and sad and freeing all at once. And if you can't go in person, at least you can listen
online. (Thanks, NPR!) (Had a wonderful time at the show on Tuesday with Thoreau and Lisa and Ali and people. Wasn't sure how Josh would handle the 9:30 Club, or more importantly, how they'd handle him. But he came equipped with a rockin' horn section and that killer joy, and we were all powerless to resist it.)
Lesson 4: Time fills in no matter how you spend it. I am watching so much less TV than I used to (aided, of course, by the removal of our somewhat timely podcast). There are hours and hours backlogged on my TiVos. And yet, I still have no free time. Part of that is because of running and other various social engagements. Part of it is that I just don't care so much about TV right now. Sort of.
Lesson 5: Do not read articles in the
Times about office dating.
Lesson 6: Blurry pictures have a place in the world too.
(Click through or
here to see the full set from my weekend at LBI with my family, which was a lovely time indeed.)
Lesson 7: Never, ever go to a wax museum, even if it's only $10.
Lesson 8: But if you have to go, there's no better way to shake off the creepiness than by seeing The Darjeeling Limited and/or listening to the Kinks. And possibly buying really good running socks.
Lesson 9: Planting something feels good. And will continue to do so until that planted thing dies. I am hoping my mums take to their new and fairly unfriendly soil.
Lesson 10: The delayed arrival of fall has not made me love it any less or more. It is and always will be one of the best things about my life.
