NYC days 12-...19?!?!?

Jun 24, 2009 22:35

Holy crap. Umm... totally didn't think it had been that long. But I just counted the days. O.o sorry guys, shit just kind of hit the fan. Not in the bad way, just in the "woah lots of work to do" way. So I will do a quick condensed version of things that have been going on.

Last week- mid week
On thursday Erin and I got assigned to more work so woo about that. This one isn't the same kind of challenge we have been give so far. It has definite rules to it, and that makes it challenging/ interesting. Also on thursday, I randomly ran into the SCAD ad off campus group that was touring McCann! I was really happy to see one of my old professors (Bazill) , and I actually knew some of the kids there. However it was really weird being on the other side of the "listening to the recent grad who is doing something" experience. It was strange to have them all looking at me like I knew some secret I didn't. I felt like I didn't have anything really big to tell them. ^.^0 Bazill invited me to an alumni event that was happening on friday, and that was cool too.

So on friday, I went in to work for a little while to get things done and see the Canne's traveling festival work. It was cool. The Canne Lion's is a prestigious advertising award show that deals with excellence in advertising across all mediums and around the world. Due to the fear of low attendance they had gathered up some of the best work, and were taking it around to different ad agencies as a presentation. Our version of it has a lot of digital work so it was really good to get to see that. It was really inspiring too. After work I went to the Alumni event, which was in the Time Warner building in Columbus Circle. It was nice, got to see some other professors, meet a few new people and see a friend I wasn't expecting to see. Afterwards I went out with said friend (Melanie for you SCAD kids that know her) and got some food at a diner and hung out. ^.^

The weekend
When I had gone to the Time Warner building on friday, I saw that they had a mini exhibition space dedicated to cartoon network, but it was closed. So I came back on saturday to see it. Holy crap was it worth it! They had a lot of original drawings from some of my favorite shows! AND I WAS ALLOWED TO TAKE PICTURES!! So I geeked out in there for a bit. If you want to see the photos I put em all in an album on FB. Afterwards I just hung out around the time warner building for a bit (its a huge shopping center and has a lot to look at) and then got lunch in the Whole Foods downstairs. Then I went across the street to the Museum of Art and Design (MAD) for a bit. The museum is definitely focused more on industrial design and it's like (ceramics and jewelry for examples) but it was still really nice. Halfway through that my mom called me to say that the daughter of her old friend (her name is Izetta) was in NYC and looking to hang out with me. So I caught up with her and hung out with her for the rest of the day. We went down to 14th st and Broadway to a bookstore called the Strand (at least I think that is it) where they sell books for SUUUPPPEEERRR cheep. Like there were hardback books for around $11. It was cool. We also found a nice shoe store and a comic book store. I was excited for the comics. Then we went back to columbus circle and had sushi. It was really good. ^.^ then we split up and I just hung around home for the rest of the evening.

Sunday was pretty quiet. I did some work, and called the fam for fathers day. Later in the day Amarillis called and wanted me to come to her place for dinner. I did and it was nice. Watched "Knocked up" too. It really wasn't that funny to me, but it was still an ok movie. Then I came home.

This week so far
Monday was more work, and kind of mellow. After work we went to a group that one of my CA's created called "She Says". It's all about female creative directors in the Ad business. The speakers at this meeting were all male though, since it was their man day :P but it was really cool. Tuesday was... forgettable? I mean it was only yesterday but it was a little forgettable. OH! but 3 big things did happen that I will have to fully talk about later. 1- a lady fell between the train and the platform on my way to work. O.o (she got stuck in the gap and she was ok so it wasn't that bad. Just a good/ stupid story/cautionary tale about rushing) 2- I went out to dinner with a friend I made at the AAF in February 3- on the way out to dinner with said friend we saw J-Z. lol

Today was lots of work. We got about 3 more projects give to us on top of the 2 we already had, so we have our work cut out for us. But tomorrow and friday we get to go on a commercial shot! I am excited :P Oh! and I did my "random connectivity" thing again. On the way home, I stopped and waited till this guy finished a phone call, just so that I could tell him he has a cool tie. It was a older gentleman and I only waited for like half a second. His face kind of lit up when I told him that, so I am kind of hoping that it was a special tie. ^.^

Any way, that is all for now. Hopefully tomorrow I can tell the story of the lady falling but I don't have the time now.

life stuff, interconnectivity, random junk, new york thoughts
