[WARNING]
Below is a long entry filled with me musing about political stuff. It has no bearing on how I'm doing at the moment, or anything life wise. Only read this if you are bored, or feel like reading my silly musings. ^.^

I was reading the BBC news and I came across an article about how China is planing to have safety standard talks with the US some time in the future. ( If you really feel like reading the article it's here:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/6949002.stm) One of the statements just got me thinking.
"On Wednesday, Democrat senator Dick Durbin accused China of having "lax safety standards" and said that toy firms should voluntarily allow third-party inspectors to check goods."
So what is wrong with that statement, you ask? Well to me it just seems way to rash. Yes China is recalling a bunch of things right now do to health hazards, but tell me, in the history of everything, when has any import bean perfect? Anywhere we get things from comes under suspect at some time. So why jump on China right now? China is supposed to be an important economical and world force right now, so isn't it better to try and keep them as an ally? I'm not saying import safety isn't important, but it's more pressing to fix a mistake that has already been made than blame someone about it.
Besides, third-party inspectors? I don't have a problem with that idea, but does an impartial third-party to anything actually exist? Anyone you could or would find must have an agenda some where right? So why even say that? Why not just say that products should obey standards in both countries, and leave it at that? Isn't that the best thing any way? Honestly to me that statement says "Oh hey. well obviously your country doesn't have standards as good as ours, so we have to find someone to baby sit you." I don't know about heads of state, but that would make me angry.
The statement also feels like such a "blame game" move as well. Why do we do that? Why is it necessary to point fingers and blame people in politics, or in anything else for that matter? Must we jump on them before someone jumps on us? I mean really, why dose no one ask why these products weren't inspected by the US before they hit store shelves? Or were they and they still sipped thorough? Or did you just inspect them too late? Either way, it's unnecessary to point fingers and throw blame. Why not admit that it happened and focus on fixing the problem and making sure no one gets hurt by this? Why must both sides fling there statements of blame and point fingers fist?
That all just got me thinking to why I don't like the statement in the fist place. It seemed rash and like it wasn't thought about. Again, why do we do that? I find myself marveling at the amount of times I hear on the news that some politician or another is taking back some statement they said. Well, if you had put some thought behind what you were saying in the first place, or checked up on your facts, you wouldn't have had to take it back. And if that is how you really felt, then why not defend your statement? Your constituents and fellow officials have the right to know how you feel don't they? So if you said what you mean, have the gust to stand by what you meant. Hell, you obviously had the guts to say it in the first place. So do one or the other. Actually be the figure head you are clamming to be and only make statements with some thought behind them, or have the guts you are pretending to have when you make an initial statement.
I guess I can't just place stigma on american politicians either, really. Americans themselves are quick to judge, and quick to condemn. In fact, we are quick to do everything. However, better philosophers than me have said that and examined that statement to its fullest. However, I have to wonder. Do our politicians make quick statements due to the eternally unstable nature of our government? Or do we all make such quick judgments due to our own unstable and in the end fleeting nature? So is it not just americans, but everyone? I guess the human condition could always be to blame for a lot of the things we do. But then again, being human could never be an excuse in my eyes. It's just a fact. Weather you decided to fight your nature, rise above it, or use it for your own gain is your decision. In the end, human nature is just like everything else: it's what you make of it.
Heh On that note, I guess i should not make so many generalized statements.... and stay up so late at night thinking myself in to circles. Besides, the man could have been misquoted, or I'm just reading in to things too much. ^.^
