Something else was in the area. She could hear footsteps, smell something.... something she wasn't yet sure how to identify, though she felt sure it was an animal smell. Karen followed her nose for a surprisingly short distance before she spotted a foot--a fair-sized foot, connected to a quite impressively sized body.

She craned her neck to look up at the strange bird that towered over her, making a noise of quiet but obvious amazement; she had never seen anything like it, never even seen anything that bore the faintest resemblance. What kind of bird was so big? Why was it walking instead of flying? Why did its wings look sharp?

Oh! It talked? That was as amazing as being able to hear two sides to the language it spoke; it almost seemed to overlap itself somehow. How strange.... This must be one of the other people who lived here, if the network today were any indication, though she rather doubted she'd be able to recognize them like this. Still, Karen rose up onto her haunches to make the attempt, tail swaying to help balance her as she studied the fierce-looking horns and beak and blades.

"Hello?" Her answer would at least solve the question of whether or not she was sentient, though it would likely offer little help answering the question of what she was; after all, did a rodent saying 'Rat?' really tell Lelouch anything he didn't already know?

Flying as an organic was completely different from flying as a shuttle. Once Skyfire had managed to get himself up in the air, it was the wind that did most of the work. He soared across the city, moving his wings to try to take advantage of the air currents. It wasn't as easy as it looked, truth be told. And he had feathers now! Those were quite a novelty.

He was still trying to figure out everything worked when he noticed a small creature running around below. (His sight was impressive, too. He needed to make mental notes about all these things. As much as he was enjoying himself, keeping his memory chore or internal records would have been nice.)

Curious, Skyfire glided down to meet the newcomer. A fellow explorer, perhaps?

It was the shadow passing over her that first alerted Karen that she wasn't alone; she paused and rose onto her haunches, peering up to see what had blocked the sun. A large bird with an impressive wingspan greeted her in mid-glide; her fur ruffled in surprise at the sudden, swift approach, and she froze on instinct.

She herself, of course, didn't know enough to fear for her safety in such a small and vulnerable form, much less out in the open like this.... but in that moment of alarm, the Rattata's instinctive awareness of possible predators was temporarily overriding her curiosity.

Skyfire was used to being bigger than most people, even those of his own species. He knew it could be somewhat intimidating... well, until they got to know him, at least. But the first impression was still there.

So he didn't land too close, and tried to look as harmless as possible.

"Wingull?"

Just a friendly hello.

Somehow, seeing Skyfire on the ground was less intimidating than seeing him in the sky--maybe it was because he wasn't moving so quickly, or because it proved he was friendly. He was still big, after all, even if he wasn't as comparatively as huge as a normal person--or Cybertronian, for that matter--would be.

And so she gave herself a brisk shake to knock the surprise off, venturing closer with a bright, machine gun-quick chatter of 'Tatatata!' "Hello! Who are you?"

It was hard to recognize people like this, even if she should have known who they were; it was like meeting everyone again for the first time....
