Before he'd come to Nautilus, self-doubt had not been a part of Cain's persona. He'd known exactly who he was and why he was - he'd known who his allies were, who his enemies were, and who his gods were. Two years of life like that - it had been so easy, looking back now. This was not to say he never had doubts in those times. They'd just been easier to defeat or ignore. But, as its name suggested, the City of Change had been making things very different. Unimaginably so. He was alive, God was dead, and his allies and enemies had all been mixed into a vast gray sea of vagueness that the young, sheltered and cynical Cain hardly dared to dip a toe in.

And that was where this doubt was coming from, probably. He'd actually agreed to meet with someone - a human, no less. That had to be a sign of desperation or perhaps even failing mental health. The more he thought about it, the more he regarded his decision as impulsive and likely ill-fated. This girl - whom he lacked substantial information on - claimed to have innate powers, despite being a human. For all of his short life, he'd been taught about the inferiority of the human race, and one who apparently rose above her species' failures was definitely worth an investigation in the eyes of the Family Program. But at the same time, didn't that make her more dangerous, as well? If she was even telling the truth. He could never trust a human farther than he could throw them with D-Felon. That much, he was absolutely sure of.

But the deed was done, and now he'd have to deal with it. And the way that Cain would deal with it would be by bringing company. As he arrived at the meeting spot ( the corner of the street Babylon Hotel was on - he didn't want to go far from his home ), two of the tall, skinless monsters known as Arabesque flanked him, silent except for their heavy, animalistic breathing. If his powers had been back up to speed, he wouldn't even have worried about such things. But their recovery speed left a lot to be desired. For now, his mother's creations would have to assisst him.

It wasn't like she'd said anything about coming alone.

The feeling of being in control of the situation always did bring him pleasure, and so Cain couldn't help but wear his typical smirk. This wasn't a dubious decision. This was just risk-taking. For Mother.
