[ Riyaz stands with his back partially turned to the camera in what looks like a bedroom - his room in Wheeljack's lab, in fact, not that that's readily apparent. And he's doing... something. The clairvoyant is facing a lamp which stands on a table beside his bed, one hand extended and raised, palm out. He's breathing deeply ( Read more... )

That's right. I am not normally telekinetic, but after... Legato, I thought it would be best to have an ability I could use to defend myself. Not that I had intended to broadcast that to the entire city... [ frowns ]

[considers] Ya know, that might be worth tryin' myself. [he'll never forget that helpless feeling when he was seeming bashing his own head against a wall.]

[smirks] Yeah, well you know how Nautilus can be.

[ nod ] I've been attacked by psychics before, and all I could really do was try to get away. Here... well, I don't see why I shouldn't be able to expand on my own talents a little.

It'd be nice it if had a little more regard for my safety. [ sighs ] Though perhaps I am too wary. Telekinesis is common enough around here that I doubt it will mark me as a particular threat.

Maybe not, but it's a start. Willin' ta give a few pointers?

Certainly. I suppose I'm more qualified than most in Nautilus to talk about psychic abilities.

I'd say. [oh hey, he steps out of his room and Bends himself human before knocking softly on Riyaz's door.]

Mind if I come in?

[ Riyaz opens the door, smiling. ] Not at all.

[ He steps backward to allow the other to come in. The clairvoyant's room is very neat and well-kept. ]

[Steps in] Thanks, Riyaz. [looks around for a place to maybe sit down. If there seems to be enough space for both of them to do so he'll go take a seat, if not he'll stand.] So how does Telekinesis work exactly?

[ Riyaz only has one chair at his desk, but out of politeness he seats himself on the edge of the bed. ] It's a psychic ability. Psychics from my multiverse manifest their power in several different ways - my natural talent, for example, is clairvoyance. What all of them have in common, however, is a sort of mental energy which seems to be linked to the Dimensional Rift. The exact connection has never been clear to us, though we have studied it extensively, but we do know psychics are the only ones who are able to sense the Rift... and a very few can cross it without any additional aids.

[ He pauses, and smiles ruefully. ] ...But to be honest, that doesn't apply here. The Rift doesn't exist in Nautilus... I've come to accept that the interdimensional laws I was familiar with have no bearing anymore. I have had the use of my clairvoyance ever since Bending it back, despite the absence of the Rift, so I can only assume that Nautilus itself is the source of my mental energy. Bending.

[He so loves hearing about other people's worlds] Makes sense it would work differently here than it did back home for ya. So back home ya had a connection ta a comment..."power", an anomaly that some people were attuned to and were able ta do things others couldn't, right?

Was telekinesis something you could do back home?

Yes, that is essentially correct. We were never able to discover what causes people to develop psychic abilities, but it's become clear that some simply have them from birth.

[ He shakes his head at that last question. ] No. I was clairvoyant, and a Traveller - someone who could cross the Rift. I have known several telekinetics, though... both allies and enemies. [ He frowns slightly. ] Let's just say I am well-acquainted with what telekinetic power is capable of.

That's good enough for me. So it's is just a matter of pickin' somethin' up and movin' it without touchin' it? There some trick ta bein' able ta do it?

Yes, that is really all it consists of. I suppose what's difficult is the distinction between Bending an object to float in midair and Bending yourself the power to make it do so. But a telekinetic should not need to concentrate nearly as hard as someone Bending would have to.

Well, I guess if you've taught yourself how ta do it, then I should be able ta learn. So how about we head ta my room, more space an' none of Wheeljack's projects ta worry about, yeah?
