The Enterprise was embarking on another mission but this time it was just a simple diplomatic one. Jim would have to dress in his dress uniform and Spock would stay hidden most of the time from all the people on the ship that he didn’t know or really care to know. He’d gotten along with the crew, mostly just the senior staff, really well but he was still uneasy about space travel and being onboard. But Jim took care of him and nothing bad had happened yet.

Today they would be getting the Vulcan ambassador. Neither of them thought twice about this because really it just never entered their minds that it could the man it would be. He looks different from what Spock remembers; he’s bigger now in the shoulders and even taller. His hair is graying and he looks like he’s got the weight of his world on his shoulders but you’d never know it bothered him. His name is Ambassador Sarek of Vulcan. Jim introduced himself back to this long time stranger and turned to take him on a tour of the ship.

Sarek’s eyes landed on Spock for twelve seconds, he knows because he counted every second. He knows because those steal eyes soften in pain, a pain that is too old to remember and then he is gone. Eyes back to the steal gray that they normally are. Spock knows in those short few seconds that that man is his father, long lost to him and Sarek hardly even batted an eye. Spock felt something inside him twist and break. He bit his lip and looked at Jim.

“I am returning to our room Jim,” he says quietly. “I do not feel well.” He knew he’d have to answer for his demand to leave so he lies through his teeth and turns away from…from Jim and quickly moves down the hall to their room.
