The Media Messed Up Again

Once again, I find a neuroscience article messed up by the news.

Article

"In The Journal of Neuroscience, experts report that the brain might house more memories than people realize, but that retrieving those memories can be tricky."

NO!

The article in J. Neurosci. says: "In summary, we found that [the part of the brain in question] can detect objective differences between old and new items that are not accessible to consciousness." In other words, your brain realizes that you have seen something before, even if you do not consciously realize it. That is a far cry from actually remembering what the item was and retrieving the memory of it.
