HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

Jan 18, 2005 10:50

Well, kids, it's about that time again. Classes. We'll see how everything goes. I've only been to one so far, and I already ran into a Sherman kid. They're everywhere, I tell you! But, it is nice to know people, and to have people to call, should I be *sick* and need to borrow notes.

I've only been back living in a dorm for a few days, and I'm already sick of it. Privacy: minimum. Silence: none. Sleep: difficult. Temperature: extreme. Roommate: snores...loudly. Maple Hall is not for the weak of heart. It is for the calloused, the battle-hardened people without emotions or fears. The few, the proud, the Marines...you know the bit. I am not that strong. I want a bed on the floor...I want to be able to pee without worrying that someone is going to walk in on me. I don't want my roommates hideous Harry Potter posters and badly rendered anime on the wall. I detest florescent lights. I want temperatures above 55 degrees.

Am I complaining again?

Anyway, the point is that I don't have what it takes to survive dorm-room living for an extended period of time. TCU was different...it was nice...it was a watered down version of how things really are. Here, people don't say things like "Please" and "Thank you"...there aren't maids walking about at all hours cleaning up the crap we leave behind. There are only peeling walls and flickering lights, broken ceiling tiles, and an un-helpful receptionist talking to her cousin, Vanecia, on the phone about whether or not she should "dump the bastard" and "sue his crack-hoe ass for every penny he's worth."

But, I digress.

I am actually enjoying myself a bit. I have friends here. I have a very promising job interview this afternoon. I'm moving to a better room with a better roommate in two weeks. My parents are buying me dinner this weekend. It's not all bad. I'm just ready to be comfortable.
