Happy New Year!

Like the title says, folks, hope you've had a good break and the return to work/school/lounging around the house in your underwear isn't killing you too much. Today is the first SNOW DAY I have ever had in my life and although I'm technically supposed to be working, I think I will have an update (and some lunch) first.

I now have wheels! They are attached to a Honda Civic 1.5LSi, which I'm told is a fairly decent and fuel economical car, although the insurance prices would have you believe it's a bit
. I think this has something to do with them being popular with the blue-LEDs-and-racing-stripes modding crowd.

The drive back down to Lymington on the motorway was not too bad, my dad came with me and despite the terrible weather and the many lorries kicking up spray there were no problems. I did my first solo drive later that evening, spending about an hour going through the Forest in semi-random directions until I found the road home again. It really does feel damn good to have this new degree of freedom!

I really want to drive out into the Forest to take pictures of the snow, but I'm not sure it's such a good idea as I've never driven in these conditions before and the ungritted, narrow, twisty country roads can be very unforgiving.

Over the break I also saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie, which I thought was a lot of fun. I haven't read much Holmes at all but I do know that Watson is often asked to bring his revolver just in case and that it is implied that Holmes uses his combative skills to get himself out of trouble, so this interpretation is really just an extrapolation of that. Since I know there are a few Holmes fans reading this, I may do a little piece later on about the fight scenes in the film and how they compare with the actual arts Holmes was supposed to have studied. Sound interesting to anyone?
