Buffy CZ: Welcome to the Series

Mar 12, 2010 19:09

Update on Czech Buffy situation! I've watched first two episodes, and thank-God it's not absolutely terrible as I was afraid. You know, I'll never be a fan of dubbed versions of anything, but to be fair, this really didn't suck as, for example, the Angel translation did. I've noticed only one major mistake. Here:

JESSE:
Is it me, or are you turning into a bibbling idiot?

XANDER:
No, it's, uh, it's not you.

Outcome?

JESSE:
Are you turning into a idiot, 'cause I'm here?

XANDER:
No, that's not why.

Eh. I can see why they made the mistake, but it's such a shame! I would expect this kind of error from online subtitles, not television translation. Can't they see it doesn't make any sense?

And no, the rest of the script wasn't perfect. Dialogues were often slightly altered or simplified, which really bugs me. Rich dialogues are part of the series' beauty, so why, why take it from Czech viewers?

The other thing were new voices, of course. I'm not complaining. (Sure, Xander does sound too old, Willow weird at first, Giles doesn't have an accent, and Buffy's not SGM... eh, hush, me!) People who've seen the original will never be satisfied. But people who haven't and who are used to TV dubbing will hopefully enjoy it anyway.

One more thing: Xander's not Alex anymore! Xander's Xander! Yay!

That's about it for today. As I've said, it's not as Buffy as Buffy should be, but at least it's close. That's something.

Edit: Oh, and Buffy won f_march_madness ! I'm happy now. ♥ ♥ ♥
