Irn-Bru

I have always been the sort of guy to poo-poo the idea of sub-standard food, and indeed the popularity of fizzy drinks (or "pop") often makes me shake my head and worry about the health of my fellow man... This is probably rather hypocritical, in view of the large amount of Pepsi Max that I have drunk in my life... Of course, I was able to shed the burden of Pepsi Max once I came to Scotland, because I discovered something even more horrid and addictive - Irn-Bru...
What is Irn-Bru you ask? Well, it contains:
Carbonated Water, Citric Acid, Flavourings (including caffeine and quinine) sweeteners (I drink the diet stuff), Preservative (E211), Colours (E110, E124), Ammonium Ferric Citrate (0.002%).
I don't quite understand why, but drinking this combination of chemicals makes you feel really, REALLY good... There is also a warning on the bottle that "if spilt this product may stain". It is a bright orange color, and does indeed stain if spilt, as many hospital scripts can pay testament to...
And the great thing is that you can but a glass bottle of the stuff for 90 pence, 20 pence of which you get back when you return the bottle! As my housemate Mark has said - it's like you are being paid to drink the stuff!!! I don't think this is strictly true, but he gets rather enthusiastic about it, and I don't have the heart to put him straight...
Sometimes I wonder what it is doing to my system... Most of the time I just sit back and enjoy the ride...
