WHO: Ezra, Kieran, Lawrence, Lynne
WHERE: On the edge of Chinatown
WHEN: October 2nd, 8pm
WHY: Making rounds! And running into demons.
FORMAT: Log
notvelour:
It wasn't unusual to hear dogs yelping and wandering in the streets of Abaton at night. …Maybe a little to hear them howl. But no stray dogs could let out a howl that made your heart pound and gut curl like the demons lurking in the alleyway on the edge of Chinatown.
shwick:
It'd been a few weeks since this had all begun. But once it started though, things quickly escalated. Rumors had bustled about the school and even around town. Talk of demons and strange creature sightings had suddenly become a thing of the norm. Kieran and a couple of his upperclassmen, others who had also experienced and obtained Personae, decided it was in their best bet to go and do a nightly round. See if they could find anything and maybe learn more about their Persona. And more about the demons. They met at Chinatown tonight. And as always, Kieran was there early and first.
isolatedscholar:
Lawrence was still greatly split on how to feel about the situation at large--the bulk of those feelings directed towards interacting with this particular group of people. He wasn't exactly excited about the idea of meeting everyone in Chinatown, but some part of him wasn't unhappy about it. If there was indeed something that would show up tonight, only they could protect the people of Abaton from it. With that thought in mind, he strolled briskly through the streets until he reached the designated meeting point.
boyinchains:
Ezra was not usually the most punctual of the group but after enough glares from Lawrence he'd made it a point to arrive earlier this evening... though he still arrived after the blonde. Supressing a scowl, he nodded at Kieran and his roommate before glancing down the shadowy alleys. The first few outings had taught him not to keep his expectations too high, but there was something about meeting at night in a predetermined place like this that set his nerves buzzing with anticipation. They really looked shady, gathered here like this... that is, if anyone were around to see it. "Evening. Are we all set then?"
pen_vs_laptop:
Lynne was running late. She jogged to the meeting spot, her red boots hitting the ground with a distinct sound. When the rumors had popped up she'd been...apprehensive. But others were going and she didn't want to stand back if she could do things too. When she caught up to the meeting spot, she sucked in a breath and panted, "Sorry I'm late....did I miss anything?
shwick:
Kieran couldn't say he was eager to see Lawrence, since the other didn't really seem to like anyone much, but he perked up a bit when Ezra and Lynne showed up. It was good that at least the group of them could work together. Also, it was nice that it wasn't a complete sausage fest again. "Well, we're set now. You're alright, Lynne." Kieran crossed his arms and tilted his head slightly. "Should we split up into 2 and go block to block, or...?" He let his voice hang, waiting to hear their input. Kieran wasn't completely aware of the other's strengths and such with their Personae in great deal yet.
isolatedscholar:
Lawrence shot a leer in Lynne and Ezra's directions. Ezra he expected to arrive late, but Lynne? He had hoped she'd at least be punctual. Hmm. He disregarded it and glanced at Kieran as he spoke. "Well," he began, "I believe that the best method would be us splitting up, walking a complete circuit around the area and meeting back here in a designated amount of time. Perhaps thirty minutes to an hour?"
boyinchains:
Lynne's arrival lifted Ezra's spirits as well, and he relaxed a bit and shot a small smile at her before turning to Kieran. Ezra thought that Lawrence's insufferability might be tamed in the presence of a girl... that was the point of the cravat, right? To look... gentlemanly? Ezra stifled a snort and grin, before hiding it with a shake of his head when the plan was raised. "Or I could just have Xochi take a look and see where they are..." He shrugged. "The details have been pretty fuzzy but... I'm pretty sure I can tell that much." Without waiting for a confirmation - it was more efficient, what argument could Lawrence *possibly* raise against it - he summoned the red feathered being and took a look around. Two bleeps on the radar... coming from a few blocks to the west. "If there are any more, I can't see them right now," he added sheepishly after he relayed the information to the group.
pen_vs_laptop:
"I'm fine, just catching my breath," Lynne replied to Kieran. Lynne nodded in acknowledgement to Lawrence (though that leer didn't go unnoticed) and returned Ezra's smile slightly. When Ezra finished his scan, Lynne fiddled with a strand of her hair thoughtfully. "Well...those might be the only ones out here at the moment. If they're coming this way we might as well go meet them, right?"
shwick:
Kieran watched with interest as Ezra summoned his persona with ease. At that night, he hadn't really had the time to take in the sight of anyone else's personae in great detail. To him, it was still a bit unsettling that they were able to do such a thing. Persona seemed as strange as demons. "So you can actually track these things...?" Kieran noted, chalking it up to another reason as to why Ezra was all the more interesting. "Well, even so, its useful..." He murmured. "I guess we're off to that, then. No need to split up in the meantime." With that, he headed in west, keeping his eyes peeled. It was dark but the streetlights kept them from being completely amiss. And it certainly wasn't at its darkest yet. The route led them to an alley which he personally found a little shady and weary. and he sure as fuck wasn't going to be the one leading the group down there. however, he stood at the enterance and peered into the dark creavice to try to spot any demons or anything of the sort.
notvelour:
The pair of Inugami looked up from their rummaging, all glimmering red eyes staring out of the darkness of the alley. The staredown lasted an uncomfortable few seconds, and then the Inugami were growling and taking to the air in great big, ghostly swoops. "HUMANS! LEAVE."
isolatedscholar:
As Lawrence followed the group, he crossed his arms. Why was KIERAN the one leading them? They were all older than the underclassman. If anything, Lawrence was the best choice to lead them because he was the smartest but a peck in the back of his head told him to 'quit thinking about mundane shit and concentrate on not biting it'. He frowned profusely as they came to the entrance of the crevice, when he heard the sounds of the creatures speaking. As they stared him down with their red eyes, he felt himself frozen in place. Not a single word came to mind. He stood there, transfixed by the gaze of the swooping creatures, unable to utter a single word of his thoughts.
boyinchains:
Ezra trotted along after Kieran dutifully in contrast to Lawrence, missing the blonde's deep frown and Kieran's remarks in favor of keeping hold on the odd mental overlay. It was dark and dim, almost like his eyes were nearly closed and if he could only open them wider, he would see clearly. But all too quick, they had arrived and there was no need to imagine. Ezra was pretty sure he would never have thought something like this up... and did every demon they encountered *have* to fly? "Wh---" "Ezra managed to bite his tongue before anything but a startled noise escaped, then backed up a step. "We don't mean you any harm," he tried again. Even if the Persona looming behind him, bristling with his headdress feathers going every which way didn't echo that sentiment.
pen_vs_laptop:
The appearance of those things in the alleyway made Lynne freeze again, the night in the kitchen and the feeling of claws slicing through her arm coming to mind instantly. However, she could feel Artemis pushing against the forefront of her mind, as though ordering her to stay calm ('stray mutts' she heard the goddess growl). Lynne took a deep breath, straightened her shoulders, and with all her effort forced herself to take step forward, eyes on them (even though every effort made her want to look away). "We don't. Really. All we want to do is talk, if that's okay. Please." She finished, feeling a bit lame
shwick:
Well, red eyes were all it took for Kieran to take a couple steps back. He had no desire to stay out in front in the first place. Now he was worried. Instinctively, his hand gripped the thick keychain on his pants belt loop. He didn't want to resort to violence with these... THINGS, but he was still weary. "......We can't just leave without some answers..." He murmured, letting Lawrence be a sort of shield between him and the creatures ahead of him. "Can you just talk to us for a moment...?" He asked wearily, not sure how this would do. It didn't work out at its best last time....
isolatedscholar:
Talk? TALK?! They wanted to talk to these things!? Were they insane!? Lawrence searched for words but a mental pecking told him he was searching for the wrong ones. 'If you jump into every encounter with intentions to fight, all you're going to do is fall ingloriously on your ass.' He gulped deeply. This thing wasn't helping at all. He looked in the direction of the demons. What could he say? He tried his hardest to be civil... "...We mean you no harm," he forced out, "we merely wish to know what it is you are doing here..."
notvelour:
The Inugami didn't look amused at all by the sudden attempts to call for a conversation. Instead, they circled and slipped amongst themselves, never quite becoming tangled, and making quiet snuffly barks and growls between themselves that the kids would never understand.
"THIS IS OUR TERRITORY," one started. Almost immediately, the other continued with, "OURS. LEAVE."
Any demon would have gotten the hint that there was no room for argument. Too bad these were humans.
boyinchains:
"... Well... you're making an awful lot of noise," Ezra murmured, thinking back to the rumors of howling that had brought them here. After he'd swallowed several times, anyway - the demon's threatening display and response had made his mouth suddenly dry. Xochi wasn't calming down any more behind him, but he was twisting his head every which way, trying to follow the long stringy bodies as they twisted and turned. A secondhand wave of almost-dizziness assaulted him and he grimaced. "So either you haven't been here long, in which case you need to move... or you need to tone it down." His tone was mild but there was a bit of a sarcastic bite to it that gave away his irritation with the Persona and the situation. "You can't stay here."
notvelour:
Probably to Ezra and Xochi's great relief, the Inugami had stopped flying themselves in circles; now, they hung in the air, black dog heads cocked at a slight angle (like a retriever listening to directions) and red eyes shining eerily at the teenagers.
"NO." The two demons said it in complete unison. "OUR TERRITORY. YOU LEAVE."
pen_vs_laptop:
Lynne blinked, trying to hold onto Artemis' derisive comment that these were just stray dogs. She somehow managed to take another step forward and continued, voice calmer than she felt, "But people have been hearing you. People who probably won't respond well, I mean. I don't think it's in anyone's interest if they came across you and your territory-" especially not innocent bystanders who can't defend themselves...
notvelour:
"LIKE YOU?" No, this wasn't going well at all. The Inugami's ghostly hackles were raised, and they floated closer and closer to the teenagers instead of hiding in the shadows. "WE CAN MAKE THEM LEAVE. WE HAVE MADE THEM LEAVE."
shwick:
Kieran couldn't help but wonder out loud. "Dog treat, much...?" He muttered under his breath, before realizing something. It wasn't a dog treat, but... He fished into his pocket, pulling out a wrapped up beef jerky he'd grabbed earlier and forgetten about. This was either a retarded idea or a brilliant one; regardless, he didn't put much thought behind it. He ripped it open and raised his brows a little. It was a peace oftering if anything. "Is that really necessary?" He asked wearily, holding the beef jerky out enough to at least make his intent known. Once they moved closer, though, he felt himself tense up. "Please don't be so hasty..." He mumbled, starting to think that if this didn't work, they'd have no other choice.
notvelour:
The Inugami perked up at the sound of the crinkling wrapper and smell of jerky, eyes blinking and tongues lolling out, looking for all the world like a pair of eager puppies in obedience class. It lasted all of three seconds.
The two demons barreled towards Kieran at full speed with jaws snapping, roaring out, "DO WE LOOK LIKE PETS?"
To be honest, it was probably not the best idea to try and offer food to two aggressive dog demons that had been desperate enough to be rooting around in the trash in the first place.
isolatedscholar:
As soon as Kieran pulled out that damnable beef jerky he KNEW this was going to end badly. He felt a chortle from the bird as it happened, but the immediate repurcussions of this came faster than he would've liked. The Inugami came barrelling at the two boys (Lawrence first because he was in front), and Lawrence's eyes widened considerably. I'm going to die... I'm going to die all because of that stupid moron...!
'Calm yourself. Getting your panties in a bunch won't help the situation... they're coming... call me...!' As Lawrence felt his heart beating faster and faster--the Inugami getting closer--he shouted loudly "PERSONA!!!" and a small pyre scorched one of the dog demons.
shwick:
Kieran immediately flinched and threw the beef jerky directly at the Inugami coming at them. He felt himself sweat, wanting to duck down or run, but instead he was cemented in fear. 'Shit...!' He clenched his eyes shut and felt his heart pulsate in an abnormal beat, remembering that he wasn't alone in this. As if on cue, his voice calling out in tune with Lawrence's, "Persona!!" Kieran shouted, and ahead of them both, Aeshma splashed onto the scene, a torrent of water slapping at the other dog. Hopefully this would buy them time to recuperate from the sudden lunge. Kieran could only shoot an apologetic look to Lawrence in the meantime, before darting his eyes back to the threat at hand.
notvelour:
The agi spell hit, and one of the Inugami peeled off, yelping and thrashing it's jaws. The other pulled itself into a wild loop to watch the fire hit, returning the whines of it's injured partner with a soft woof - only to get splashed aside in the air from the sudden water spell. It recovered well enough, snapping back to attention with a growl and turning to the children with flames licking the side of it's lips.
The next bark turned into a howl, heat erupting from the Inugami in an angered fire breath attack.
