Demons had the particular ability of putting a cramp in his studying habits. It seemed he couldn't so much as dream about cracking open a book without one of them throwing themselves into his laundry basket (or, he was starting to realize, interrupting even his dreams, although never as much as Aequitas managed).
Maybe Theo's test scores hadn't started to suffer from it - yet - but he'd never been the type to mope about until they did. Now he was settled in at a table in the school library surrounded by a half-dozen books, a library catalogue card marking the place of the one opened at his elbow, as he peered through wire-framed glasses at another in front of him. Theo's pen tore over the notepad next to him, nearly bulleted notes written out in tidy, tiny cursive.
