[Voice]
[There's a voice from the phone coming, and the voice sounds as if the owner had been trying to swallow down his tears and desperation before speaking, lacking any of its usually calm composure in doing idiotic things.]

To those who knew Issei.

[There's a small sob.]

He's dead.

[Oh, that's...]

[That's really too bad. He'd liked Issei-- gotten along with him. Probably the first scholar he'd met that hadn't immediately gotten on his nerves, who didn't mock him for simply not knowing.]

[But maybe more importantly, he knows the difference between a person who can handle the death of a comrade, and one who cannot, and Shirou falls squarely in the second category in Kanda's eyes. So while he might not be the best option for this, he walks up and stands next to Shirou at that bench quietly, giving him a moment to notice he was there. Scaring people in depression didn't help.]

...Yes?

You're blaming yourself for this.

Stop that.

[Harsh tone, brotha.]

Blaming yourself isn't going to do any good. If you must place blame, put it on his killers, put it on those that dragged us here. Blaming yourself does nothing but weaken your resolve.

[...there's some silence.]

You may have a point there.

Tch. Of course I do.

[He might sound a bit arrogant there-- but as an Exorcist, he's learned these things first hand.]

Blame doesn't really help anyone. It's fine to be upset over a comrade's passing-- but blaming yourself for being in this situation doesn't do any good. It's just finger-pointing, and doesn't get anything done.
