Only thoughts on TV’s and tents
As we rode our bikes through the park.
We sang so loud over the engine of the bus;
We knew these were our girls.
We could swing for hours,
And we could swing so free.
We thought the world would catch us.
Then one day we all woke up
And realized we had all grown up.
Our worlds were so heavy on our shoulders.
Our shoes would never quite fit the same.
This life has a face that’ll break your heart,
Don’t keep waiting for something better.
We could read one book a day,
And breathe with such grace.
Our lives were filled with time & laughter.
We thought the world would catch us.
The children these days are only swinging higher,
And you know they’re not afraid.
I can’t break their hearts; I can’t be the one to tell them,
This world will never catch them.
