Lillian had never been given detention before in all of her years of schooling. Had she been given detention fairly, she wouldn't have been mad at all. But none of them had done anything to deserve this punishment, except maybe for Amalia by laughing. Even then she couldn't fault her for it. Principal Ivors was such a jerk to everyone, who wouldn't laugh at him getting his just desserts. Literally.

Still, he refused to listen to anyone's explanation that it was an accident. And so Lillian was on her way to the auditorium to an unfair detention.

Oh, lovely! I'm the first one here. All alone with Mr. Grinch. Lucky me. Not.

Lillian didn't even bother greeting the man or even flashing him one of her phony smiles. She'd shown up. She didn't have to speak to him or even indicate that she acknowledged his existence.

Lynne sighed. Classes were done for the day and while students were buzzing in ecstasy that it was finally Friday, all Lynne could think about was the detention awaiting her in the auditorium. It wasn't like Lynne had meant to dump her food over Mr. Ivors. It wasn't like they'd teamed up to humiliate him, it'd just been a slip. Pure accidebt. Lynne could understand him being mad, she would be too, but did he really have to smile like that when he'd slapped them with this? And Lynne hadn't even gotten to eat her lunch.

When she got to the auditorium, she saw Mr. Ivors (still smiling, that petty prick) and Lillian. Lynne nervously pulled at a loose strand of hair and approached.

Wonderful. Someone else was coming.

Had she been been the type to jump at all, for joy or otherwise, Lillian would have. Principal Ivors ranked somewhere between slime-covered, demonic barracudas and eldritch horrors on her list of things she never wanted to deal with by herself in this lifetime.

She recognized the girl as the one she'd bumped into in the cafeteria. Her name was... Lynne? At least, she believed her name was Lynne. She'd seen her around but had never actually spoken to her before. Maybe she should now. At the very least, she owed her an apology for colliding with her and making her drop her lunch.

"Hello," she greeted. "I'm very sorry about earlier. I lost my balance."

Lynne blinked, pulled back from her reverie of thought. She looked at Lillian and shrugged, smiling slightly. "It's okay, you don't have to apologize for that. It's not like you're the only one who did, and it was an accident anyway."

Lynne really couldn't get upset over being tripped into when she'd gone and tripped on the principal herself. Too bad the 'accident' excuse didn't work on Mr. Ivors though.

"Still, you must be hungry." Lynne's lunch had wound up on the principal instead of her stomach where it belonged, after all.

"If there's time after we're done here, would you like to go get something to eat? Maybe we could all go. I don't think any of us had much to eat for lunch..."

"Or anything." This came from Amalia, who was no stranger to detention, but never because she'd laughed before. If she was going to get into trouble, she would have preferred it to be for having done something a little more exciting than cracking up at the principal's expense. The General had deserved it, anyway.

Just like he deserved the YOU NEED TO LIGHTEN UP look she shot him now, before she greeted Lillian and Lynne with a friendly wave. "At least it's not the attic again. I'm not the last one, am I?"

"No." The reply was curt, as Lindsey walking up behind Amalia, white cane swinging back and forth with practiced ease. When it tapped against the heel of the underclassman's shoe, he stopped his approach. He'd collided with enough people today, thanks.

To be honest, he still wasn't sure what the Principal expected him to do, and good God, he really didn't want to be here. It was written very plainly in the scowl on his face.

He remained quiet as they filed in, vaguely amused by their small talk. Each seemed equally upset, but that was typical even if the group itself wasn't entirely typical to his usual detention crowd. They were, however, familiar. Even as a rude principal he had learned the names and faces of nearly all of the students, but two of them were even more notable in light of recent events. The other two... well, he knew them well enough ( ... )

He couldn't be serious. There was no way he was gonna lock...

The sound confirmed it. He was totally fucking serious, and now Lindsey was stuck in the school auditorium with a bunch of people he had never met. A bunch of people he had never cared to meet.

What's more, is he was expected to do some reorganizing? How the hell was he supposed to do that? There was special treatment, and then there was using your common sense. He was going to be totally useless in this whole ordeal, and he voiced as much. "Fuck me. What am I supposed to do in all this? Does he expect me to just stand here and listen to you girls whistle while you work?"

Lynne stared at Mr. Ivores disappearing back in disbelief. When the lock clicked, she closed her eyes and breathed. Oddly enough, that hadn't surprised her at all.

"To be fair, we don't know exactly what or how much work there's to be done back there," Lynne said. "Maybe there's just smaller stuff or something. I mean, he did say that a group had already cleaned it, just that they cut corners..."

"He likes to throw his weight around a lot, doesn't he?"

Lillian's voice was as soft as always but this time there was a rare, sharp edge underlying the words. Her expression and body language was unusually tense for her as if she was trying to suppress or control something underneath the surface.

Lindsey's gaze snapped in Lynne's direction, and he made a derisive sound. "Whatever. Just don't do anything cute like ask me to sort things by color." He combed a hand through his hair, scowling at nothing in particular. There were no words for how much he hated this right now.

"Let's just get his over with."

... Wow, she was locked in a room with the three most enthusiastic people ever. Which obviously meant that she was locked in a room with the Blind Grouch, the Quiet Senior, and Lilly the Anger-Repressing.

Oh, boy.

Amalia decided to do what she always did when stuck with chores-- do them as fast as possible to get them over with.

"How about alphabetical?" she suggested, having to stretch up a little to give Lindsey's shoulder a pat that he wouldn't have seen coming anyway-- the poor guy. "C'mon, Lilly, you know as well as I do that he'll keep us stuck in here until we're done. So let's check out the back and see if we've got boxes to toss stuff in."

She said nothing further than that, already jogging toward the stage. No sense wasting any more time.

"Not if we break down the door," Lillian muttered beneath her breath then followed after Amalia.

It would be a better use of her time than lamenting the fact that her phone was still charging in her room and she couldn't call the cops to ask whether or not it was legal for a high school principal to lock students up against their will.

Might as well get this over with. We'll be here forever if we don't.

Lynne agreed with the general sentiment, might as well get it done. Doing something at the least was better than standing around thinking. There wasn't any use in being depressed or cursing; the faster they were done, the faster they could leave. And to be honest, Lillian's idea of grabbing something to eat afterwards didn't sound bad at all.

Approaching the stage, she allowed herself to hope a little, just a little, that maybe by 'cutting corners' it really was something minor. Maybe there wasn't really much except that someone like Mr. Ivores would care about. A bigger part of her doubted that and when she got to the stage it seemed to be confirmed.

"Jeez," Lynne muttered, "what a mess..."

Lindsey almost snapped at Amalia. Almost. They weren't buddies or anything, and she had better not touch him again or-- But then she was off towards the stage, so he just glared in the general direction of her retreating footsteps before following her along with the others.

He'd been in the Aud before, sure, but never on the stage. It took him a moment to figure the spacing of the steps before making his ascent. And when he did, Lynne's words greeted him.

"Well, that sounds fucking awesome." The senior made his careful way around the stage, prodding around for debris with the end of his cane. "Somebody fill me in. What are we looking at here?"
