Heather had slightly dreaded the moments regular classes would start up again - it generally meant that the school would become a bit more busy again and she had appreciated the quiet of the summer classes. Even if her summer hadn't been as great and peaceful as she had imagined due to the whole Persona and monsters deal. Not to mention she was getting a roommate now. That thought had only made her more anxious. (What if it was a scary or rude person? What if they wouldn't like her

Lynne's eyes flicked up at movement out of the corner of her eye. She looked up long enough to register Heather's presence before turning her attention back to the printed sheets. She flipped a page to her schedule for the semester but frowned a little when she noticed the ink was smudged in some areas. Oh right. She'd forgotten the old printer wasn't working as well as it used to. She retrieved a pen from the side pocket of her bag and started sketching back in the details she could remember. Once done, she looked back down at the few incomplete smudged sections, idly flicking the pen back and forth in the fingers of her hand, trying to remember

Heather, meanwhile, was trying to read the book while holding it up so high that she hoped it would make her vanish or at the very least hide her. But even though she was trying to focus on reading, all she could think about was the other girl just now. Heather remembered being in the same class as her, although she never did talk much with anyone at school - except the Persona users nowadays. Regardless she recognized the girl and knew her name as well, even though she didn't know much beyond that

Lynne's mouth fell open at Heather's reaction. If it hadn't been her pen and her fault it'd gone flying, she probably would have thought Heather's reaction amusing (after all, when she thought about it, she couldn't remember Heather making a noise like before, at least from what little she knew abotu her). Instead, she felt her cheeks slightly heat with the embarassment that didn't show on her face. The embarassment increased when, as she began to stand, Heather approached her with the pen.
"Yeah, thanks," Lynne said sheepishly, reaching out for the pen. "Um, are you okay? I'm so sorry about that. It just slipped and took off on its own..."
"I-I'm fine!" Heather's reply might have come a little bit too fast since she was still stuck in her awkward embarassed mode. It didn't go along well with trying to socialize with people. After she had handed over the pen, she nervously reaches up for her glasses, pushing them further back on her nose. "I mean.. I'm not hurt or anything, so.. it's fine.."
Her grip on the book in her hands tightened a little, as if she was clinging to it as her only support in this wild and crazy world of actually talking to people. The look on her face could still be best described as very nervous.
"That's good to hear," Lynne said, shoulders sagging in relief a little. However, the look on Heather's face made some of Lynne's anxiety come back. Had she done something wrong? Heather said it was fine but she looked so nervous... "I really am sorry though. I guess I'm still a bit spacey from summer. It's hard to believe school's starting back up in a few days too."
"I-it's really alright! And, ah, I've.. been here all summer, so it isn't too weird for school to start up again from my point of view.." Besides, she didn't mind school. She liked learning and books but not.. people everywhere around her.
For a moment Heather stared at the floor, apparently finding a very interesting pattern on the carpet since she stared there for quite a while in silence, contemplating on what to do. Everyone else always made this whole talking and socializing thing so easy, but it wasn't, right?
Eventually she lifted her head up again to look at Lynne. Heather tried to smile, but because she was so nervous to talk to someone it came out a little bit forced. "Um, if you need help with something.. Maybe I can help you.." Helping others was something she didn't mind doing, so Heather figured that if anything was a point to start from in this conversation it was that.
"I can understand that," Lynne said. She supposed it might actually be weirder in the summer, since most students didn't stay and most courses weren't running till the official school year. School starting again would be more like returning to 'natural order' in that case.
"I think I'm good, but thanks for - actually, that'd be great." She ruffled through her papers. "My printer messed up so not everything turned out all right. My room number came out okay at least but not all the classes. We have Mr. Baker and art I think, right?"
"That's right. Miss Himura teaches art.." Because no matter how much Aki insisted for all the students to just call her Aki, that was something Heather could never do. She smiled a bit sheepishly as she bended over to watch the other girl's paper. That was the moment she spotted the room number on it.
... Oh.
For a slight moment shock appeared on Heather's face, but she quickly tried to force it away again because what would her new roommate think of her if that was one of her first reactions? Her face immediately coloured pink again. "U-um! I-if you're in room 603, that means we're.. roommates.." She didn't mean for it to sound so nervous and almost unenthusiastic, but the idea of a new roommate just made her socially awkward as heck.
"Huh? Really?" Lynne hadn't been sure who to expect this year. She'd had and survived good and bad roommates so she expected it could have gone either way this year. Lynne didn't know enough to place Heather but the other girl seemed nice. It was a definite step-up from her last roommate at least: that one would have torn Lynne's head off and shoved it in the shredder at the pen-thing.
Lynne smiled. "I guess we're roommates then. Nice to meet you."
"N-nice to meet you too!" She was still very unsure about all of this - even if Lynne didn't seem like a bad person - and very nervous, but Heather tried to force a thin smile on her face nonetheless. But even the small smile couldn't help the stuttering, really. "I.. hope we'll be able to get along well.. I-if you ever need anything, feel free to ask me..!"
Being a doormat was one of the few things she was good at, after all.
"Same to you," Lynne said, still smiling. She pocketed the pen and papers, conscious of the bag at her feet. She still had to drop her stuff back upstairs but she figured she should check something. It wasn't likely but things happened and it was better to know now than blindsided by it. "Did anything change over the summer?"
"Anything.. change?" Heather nearly subconsciously echoed back those words, her mind going back over everything that had happened during summer - and oh, a lot had happened, too much - at light speed. The scary monsters, the Personas, the research and nights spent in fear..
Heather wished she still had some way to go back to how things were before this summer. Maybe then she could have avoided all these scary and nervous-making things.. But then again, she'd feel bad for not helping out like everyone else. She couldn't allow herself to be the one skipping out, even if it was out of fear.
"N-not much, really! I-it's like not anything bad happened at all..!" Usually she wasn't too bad at covering up things, but the whole new roommate situation was making her be more on edge than usually. After taking a few deep breaths she could finally speak calmly again. "Well, one time one of the bathrooms was mysteriously half-destroyed, but.. that's about it.."
"Half-destroyed?" That caught Lynne's curiosity. She tilted her head slightly. "You mean someone did something stupid like tossing toilet paper around or messing with the soap or towels or sinks and stuff?"
There was another possibility but Lynne didn't ask about that. She hoped most people would have some standards of taste or hygiene.
"N-no.. It was even worse than that." For a moment it seemed like Heather's glasses were going to fall off her nose, but she quickly pushed them back up. "It was.. really half-destroyed.. The back wall was destroyed, a window too.. And they pulled out one of the sinks.."
She let out a very slight nervous laugh. "Or so I've heard." After all, that had been the work of the boys' group, not the one she had been in.
Lynne shrugged. "Sounds like another overblown rumor. I mean, I could understand if there was something like a construction or remodeling accident and something got damaged but a wall, a window, and a sink? How would that be possible?"
