He finally caught sight of the drunken idiot on the third floor, stumbling around with a bottle in his hand. Sylar lifted one eyebrow, staring with an almost amused expression. Rolling his eyes, he strode forward to go catch up to his warden. He had set out to find Claude as soon as he had seen the drunken entry, but he wasn't certain why. Trying to understand the other man, maybe. To use him. To help him. It all depended on how troublesome and sarcastic his warden decided to be. He approached at a distance, eyes straight on Claude, obvious in his intent to have a conversation.]
"Do you feel better now? Being drunk?"

Honestly? Much!

[Sylar said it without enthusiasm, silently noting Claude's ease in using his ability even while drunk. He envied that freedom, having not had it since the Admiral was reinstated. His abilities still came as he called, the ones he had earned here, but never as strongly or with such simplicity. Finally nearing the invisible man, he stopped a few feet away and stared, arms crossing over his chest. It was kind of pathetic.
Well, no use wasting time.]
"Why do you try so hard to avoid your destiny here?"
Reply
[Claude waved his hands as though he were summoning up a spooky, mystical ghost]
Invisible man, remember?
[As in: it's my job to avoid things. Which, of course, goes against all that stuff he said to Sylar about 'abilities not being all that you are' and blahblah-- honestly, sometimes he couldn't believe some of the rubbish he managed to spew out.]
Don't have a destiny here.

[And, unfortunately for Claude, the killer would take him up on the opportunity to point out his hypocrisy. Because he didn't believe when his warden had told him that and he intended to fight the idea of abilities not making a person who they were. What was Peter without his abilities? Or Adam? The only one of them that might be worthwhile without was Elle and she loved them nearly as much as Sylar did.]
"What happened to an ability not making you different or special? You couldn't go a week without yours then expect me to willingly sacrifice my own? You're no different than the Company you left behind, the one you claim to have left by choice."

[Claude makes a show of rolling his eyes, along with a dismissive noise]
He's a twat. Wouldn't know his head from his arse.
[And then-- oh-- of course Sylar has to toss his words back in his face. Bloody inmate. Claude much preferred the days when he was free to roam the Barge and ignore everybody, not a care or responsibility in the world until that unfortunate assignment]
That's 'cause I'm different from you. 'Cause I don't use my abilities to do anything 'cept... [He waves a hand] ignore the lot of you. [He takes another drink, then looks down at the bottle and sloshed its contents around a little, as though he's disappointed that it isn't a neverending fountain of alcohol]
And I can go a week without, me.

"Prove it." [Yeah, it was a challenge. And because Claude was drunk, he might even accept it. It didn't really make a difference to Sylar whether or not his warden could become invisible, but it opened doors and created opportunities for him to enlist the aid of others in occupying his warden's time. Opportunities for Sylar to get into things he wasn't supposed to.] "And if you give me my abilities, I'll prove to you that I can use them to ignore everyone just like you."

What, you think 'cause I've got a couple in me [Well, more than a couple], I'm gonna take your little playground bet?
[He shakes his head]
No. Don't trust you, not gonna happen.

[He dropped his arms from his chest as he spoke, becoming a little more excited about the idea. It didn't mean he couldn't do anything. Only that he couldn't get caught. Plus if he did do it, it might gain him trust. And with Claude visible.. It could be the perfect set-up. Or an honest victory. Either way, it didn't sound so bad.]

Who d'you think I am? What, you think the prospect of punishing someone's so appealing that I'd agree to it just for the chance?
[He laughed again and started walking in the opposite direction, figuring his Inmate was going to follow him, anyway.]
I give you your powers, you kill somebody, and it's on my head. And the whole thing about me bein' the invisible man? It's 'cause I hate havin' other people's business on my head.

"Fine, make it easier for you. If I fail, you can get rid of my abilities completely, for a week. I won't ask for them back in that time. I could use it for time to.. think, like you wanted. But if I do it, I get to keep one at full strength for longer."
[He was a little bit desperate at this point, yes, but it was still a valid proposal.] "I won't kill anyone." [His voice slipped into sarcasm.] "It's great that you trust me so much, though. It's really flattering." [Then back to normal.] "I don't see why I should listen to you if you can't even do it for a week, live without them. You expect me to do it for much longer."

So, d'you remember what it looked like when the top of my head came off? [He shrugged] I mean, I sure don't, bein' dead at the time. But I can imagine. [He narrows his eyes and looks quite serious now] So no, I don't trust you.
[He was going to lose that miserable happy buzz he had going very soon at this rate]

"No expectations.. no disappointments.. no guilt, no regrets." [He considered the idea for a moment. If Claude expected nothing, he couldn't disappoint. It wasn't ideal, but it was better than nothing. Sylar liked playing the role he was cast as, whatever it was, out of sheer anger. It made it difficult to later prove people wrong, but he wouldn't admit to the irrational logic behind that yet.]
"Fine." [He pivoted right there, turning away from the invisible bastard to return the way he had come. Not desiring the concentration and also just to annoy Claude some more at the power he held, Sylar slipped back into the visibility. His warden still had the opportunity to say something if he wasn't busy being a stubborn drunk, but the killer didn't expect much.]
