I'm having fun in NC. Miss some people, don't miss most. Ha. It's fun to see where everyone ended up.. I hope y'all enjoy wherever you are.
On another note, tonight definately qualifies as a
So, I'm headed out to get some food tonight. Pick it up, blah blah, head back home and get
stopped by a red light. I wait, then as I'm taking off in the far left lane a truck in the
middle lane is geting ahead of me and a guy in the right lane had just turned at that
intersection to go my direction and was ahead of the two of us.
You got me in the left lane, a guy in the middle lane ahead of me, and a guy in the right
lane ahead of the both of us. Picture it? I see headlights in my rearview mirror cut to the
middle lane then see him in my peripherals go into the right lane, headed at about 70-80 mph
in a 55 zone. He's flying, driving a big Lincoln SUV, and apparently doesn't see the
taillights of the car in the far right lane and smashes into his right rear side, knocking
out the taillight but not doing that bad of damage. I see them both pull over to the side
and I get on the phone with the cops.
I get into the left turn lane to get off the highway I'm on, and as I'm looking at the light
waiting to turn, I see a guy go sliding across the highway trying to cross, with a
black Lincoln connected at the side of this car. Read: He just slammed into this guy,
T-boned him. Note now, that this guy was going close to 80 when he hit the other car, so now
he's going even faster to run from that scene. As I follow this with my eyes in amazement as
there were two wrecks within a half mile, I don't realize that this is the same guy, but see
him go sliding around in the dirt off the side of the road and make a run Northbound on the
road I was just about to turn Southbound onto.
The phone is still ringing waiting for 911 to pick up (it had been such a short time between
the first hit and now this) that I now have to turn onto the road before mine. I get on with
911 and start to tell what I've just seen. I tell her that the black SUV headed down the
road at a high speed and a Corvette went to chase him down. She then tells me that I'm a
witness with important information and need to talk with the cops so I turn around after
getting off with them, and head back to the scene. This is before cops even show up, so I
make sure that everyone is alright and there was a passenger in the car that got hit. A 20
year-old girl got pushed into the driver and both her side curtain air-bags went off. She's
dazed but conscious and looks to be alright for the moment.
Cops start to show up now, and we direct them to what's going on. Another witness who was
going the opposite direction as the car that was hit tells me that it was not the Corvette
that chased down the driver but instead the first car that was hit. The driver of the black
SUV flipped in a corner and got caught. (Imagine that.) EMT's show up with WFD and take the
girl away saying that she's fine with a few gashes from the plastic arm rest breaking and
rubbing/cutting her arm. They had just returned from a wedding, and were very kind but put
in a very bad position (in the path of the SUV.)
At this time I start to look over the car waiting for the officers to finish up and realize
that I can put my fingers, extended, into the B-pillar and the wheels are further out than
my elbow - this damage goes almost three feet inward. Had there been a young child in the
back of the car, they would've been pushed so far into the center console they would have
broken ribs if not been killed.
Later, we find out after inquiring the cops that the initial thought is the driver of the
SUV had flipped and rolled many times and probably would not make it. There are now three
wrecked cars, two people injured, and one dead, all for a few drinks and just the right
amount of bad desisions. Stupid.
So we've got:
2 counts of hit and run
1 count of attempted vehicular manslaughter
2 counts of failure to maintain control of a vehicle
$30,000+ in damage
1 flipped SUV
2 totaled cars
2 injured persons
2 side airbags blown
2 broken windows
and one dead drunk driver.
Again, just stupid.
