Films are usually made using sympathetic characters. Is it wrong of me to've wished Samuel Bicke (Sean Penn) in The Assassination of Richard Nixon, a successful flight? I felt as though I understood him, on some levels.
They used a different spelling of his surname.
And Pink Flamingos was so beautiful. Everyone should watch it before they keel over. Really. I've gotten to it years after everyone else, but feel like I've attained a teaspoon of enlightenment by doing so. That kind of feeling you only get every so often, from the really great films. Watching it right after a film like Gozu, is only comparable to going to an exquisite buffet, the treat of a good friend.
In other happenings, Salma Hayek is a judge on the Cannes jury? Strange. And Sin City in the competition. We know it'll be getting a vote from her, that's for sure. But for it to actually win something would be a pretty amazing acheivement. It's about time Robert Rodriguez gets taken seriously. Somehow, I doubt the new Batman will reign superior over it Sin City.
I wish I had some news related to me, specifically. All I know is, I'm off my axis. I think I know why Bright Future had such an impact on me, now. Any of those films about misled, disenchanted youth. Stuck in some kind of social limbo.
He retires from the comforts of home and leaves for work.
