It's a dark room, and cold, shrouded in iron and lead, covered over in symbols to repel every evil thing under the sun, and a few things that will never see the light of day. There's one door, bolted tight, and salt sealed into the very walls ( Read more... )

"You gonna say anything?"

Bitterness and resignation, both, mixed with anger.

"Or are you just here to watch the freakshow?"

"I probably should limit myself to merely watching," she admits, stepping closer.

"But I'm not going to. There's no reason for you to be so lost as this, Samuel Winchester. Or rather, not to stay so lost as this."

"I'm not lost," he snaps. "I know exactly where I am. I'm jailed."

"In more ways than one."

One eyebrow arches so very delicately.

"Not that you'll admit that, will you."

"What?"

Sam stares at her as though she's insane.

"What are you talking about?"

"The blood, Sam. And the demon."

She's stone-still, wingless and imposing for a brief, flaring instant.

Then she's just a girl dropping down onto the mattress, tucking one leg up beneath her.

"You really think you need them. That this is how you'll win."

"I have to do something!" he lashes out. "And I'm the only one who can."

"I've got to."

She snorts, patently unamused.

"It would be better for you if you watched your pride, Sam. It was always my brother's besetting sin. You've heard the stories."

Michael braces her hands, leaning back.

"And no one man ever won a war. No one woman, either. Even two -- well. Two might be enough. But even the best of demons -- if best is a word that may be applied to such creatures -- even they have their own agenda. And they'll never tell you what it is."

"Yeah. Demons lie. I know."

His lip curls in what might once have been a smile.

"Always have. I'm not that dumb."

"Humans lie, too."

It's flat and uncompromising, but said so softly that it almost sounds gentle.

"And there's a difference between knowing they lie and believing that one is lying to you. We are neither of us that stupid."

"Of course she's lying to me." Sam shrugs.

"It doesn't matter. Means to an end. I need what she's got if I'm gonna kill Lilith."

"No you don't."

This is said a little less softly.

Michael's face may as well be hewn from rock.

"And if you were thinking clearly, in this exact moment here -- you'd know that, too."

He gives her a disbelieving look.

"Oh, would I? What am I supposed to do instead, hit her with a rock?"

Michael just looks at him, one eyebrow arching very high, indeed.

"Well, who else is there in this room who might be capable of destroying one of the damned?"

She'll give him three guesses. The way things are going he might very well need them.

"... you?"

Sam's staring at her.

"Seriously?"

Michael sits up, crossing her arms over her breasts.

"Do you really think this is the time I'd pick to be joking?"

Her chin tilts up fractionally, dark hair hanging down over one too-bright green eye.

"Not withstanding the fact that you don't seem to have thought about how I made my way in here in the first place."
