Happy Grand Final Week everybody. Isn't life wonderful?
It's a replay of last year's epic, with the Sydney Swans pitted up against the Eagles of the West Coast. The last four matches between these teams have been decided by an aggregate of just 11 points; 4 of those constituting the Swans' historic premiership last year, breaking the longest drought in VFL/AFL history.
Should this coming Saturday live up to expectations, then surely this rivalry will go down as one of the most fantastical in modern times; although because of the draft system, the importance of the rivalry will most probably wane in the future, unlike those of more "traditional" proportions, for example, Collingwood and Carlton, when teams were more often than not successful continually.
But for now it's time to enjoy the biggest week of the Australian Rules football calendar, in anticipation of what will hopfully be another brilliant example of what this game really does have to offer.
