What was going on with Vala? He had no idea. She had suddenly gone...she had gone the way she'd been back before they'd figured things out. Back when she hadn't wanted him to actually be around. He'd thought that things were different, now, but maybe they weren't. Maybe...maybe... Maybe he was just being an idiot and seeing what he was afraid he'd see.
Still, it didn't change the fact that she'd clearly wanted him gone today when all he'd wanted to do was get something to eat for dinner.
He kept his head bowed as he thought, looking at the path in front of him but not at anything that might be, say, a foot to one side. That meant that while he did see the feet heading his way and made sure he was out of their path, he didn't see how close the shoulder was and rammed into it.
"Oww. Sorry." He looked up, saw who it was, and attempted a smile that didn't quite reach even his lips. "Oh, hi, Guy."
