So, Alcuin was staying with Jack. At least Daniel knew where that was. As he walked, he tried to forget what Dr. House had read to him about Alcuin being worried about what Daniel was doing. He hadn't thought he was doing anything. Except sleeping with Alcuin. And as Alcuin had said, it was about time

Alcuin had been inside making the bed, and he recognized Daniel's voice from inside, so when he opened the door he was already smiling brightly. "Good morning, Daniel. He's not here... though do come in if you're not in a hurry."

"I actually wasn't looking for him. I was looking for you. I was just told you were staying with him." Daniel took a breath and held up the journal. "Dr. House was having fun exploring." He paused a beat. "And reading aloud."

Alcuin took in the journal, and as his mind wrapped around what Daniel had said, his eyes widened in horror. "He was... he read my diary?" His face began to color. "Out loud?"

"Apparently he reads French. With a decent accent." Daniel offered the journal without saying anything else, although there were questions in his eyes.

Alcuin took the journal from him and sat down onto Jack's bed, his face burning. And then his mind flashed with a thousand humiliating things House could have read, and he went even redder.

Daniel sighed and sat down next to him. "He didn't read much. To me. I don't know who else he read to." His pinks turned faintly pink. "Just about wanting to try again with Mohinder and me and being worried about...something." What that something was he desperately wanted to know, but those were Alcuin's private thoughts.

Alcuin groaned and buried his head in his hands. "Oh, sweet Elua." What fates had possibly conspired to make that the passage that Daniel had heard?

Daniel put a hand on Alcuin's shoulder. "I'm not going to lie and say I'm not interested in what that something was, but I'm also not going to ask. You never meant me to know." His lips twitched up just a little. "And about me and Mohinder...well, that I could have guessed on my own."

Alcuin wasn't really sure if he could get any redder at this point. It wasn't so much Daniel knowing as the way he'd found out. The invasion of privacy more than the content.

He sighed. "Daniel, I do write simply whatever comes to my head..."

"Alcuin, I know that. I just hope that you know that you can tell me anything." Sometimes, he wasn't entirely sure where he stood with Alcuin. It was one of the problems he'd had with Jack when their relationship had changed. "If you're worried about something, you just have to talk to me."

Alcuin hesitated. "It is honestly not a serious concern, Daniel. It was simply... idle insecurity." He rubbed the back of his neck, realizing that he really did need to give him an answer. "I suppose I just realized that... I was not entirely sure what had changed, that made you want me in your bed after so long."

Daniel sighed. "Simply that..." How to explain?

"I would have all those months back. But I was still hung up over Ianto. He didn't so much break up with me as asked for some space and then never talked to me again. I wasn't sure for the longest time where we stood." He smiled sadly. "Our attempt at a date proved that much. But now...well, I wasn't exactly looking for something, but I don't have something like Ianto hanging over my head."

Owen was here, but it was different. It was like starting all over again and Daniel wasn't sure he had the heart for it.

Alcuin bit his lip, nodding. "Not... Mohinder?"

Daniel shook his head. "I didn't love him. I wanted to, I think. Jack asked me once. Whether I loved Mohinder or not. Everyone else I've been with here I could say yes without hesitation. Him I...couldn't." He glanced away. It was the thing he most regretted second only to missing Mimi's death.

Alcuin really wasn't sure what to say to that. His heart ached for Mohinder because he knew that it had been unfortunate for him, but he also knew that Daniel could not help what his heart felt.

He was quiet for a moment, then admitted, his voice soft, "Mohinder told me he loves me."

Daniel nodded, not at all surprised. "That's not particularly hard to do. And again, I'm not terribly surprised." He'd seen it coming back when he and Mohinder were still together. "You know I just want to see you happy, right? Both of you."
