Seize the Day - NaNoWriMo Attempt - Chapter 3

Nov 05, 2013 06:50

So my NaNo project? Completely rewriting the Tomorrow Trilogy so that it's no longer a trilogy and mostly focuses on Jazz and Savin's story, in a tighter, more abridged sense. I'm sticking with the title Seize the Day for now, because it still fits a lot of the "theme" that seems to be present in the book. Yay NaNoWriMo!

That conversation between Jazz and his dad wasn't as unpleasant as I might have suspected, though it definitely wasn't a fun, happy time. Oh, Jazz, the goings-on of the Empire are your business, like it or not. Why do I think his deliberate avoidance is going to hurt him later on?

Speaking of hurt, ouch on the scene with Mitchel. That was certainly emotional. I know Mitchel is a (Magnificent) bastard, but I did feel bad reading this.

This is rather nitpicky, but does Jazz have the same last name in this draft as he did before? Is Casio the Emperor's last name? I ask because they're father and son in this version, right?

I think Casio's gotten used to how his son is, by now, and isn't necessarily surprised, but exasperated. I have the feeling that Jazz has been sort of avoiding his responsibilities but still doing just enough to say that he is starting to take an interest. And it probably will, knowing the things that I do.

Mitchel kind of surprised me, here -- but I think once he realizes that the situation is kind of hopeless for him and Jazz, he immediately backs off and retreats into the man we know him to be, later. It'll certainly be interesting, to see how things evolve from here.

Casio has always been Casio in my mind, last name or first name. I always forget his name is Francis, honestly, lol. But for the sake of this, he's Casio Callahan (because Jazz definitely has the same last name as before). And yes, they're father and son in this version. By blood, even.
