I can finally sit down and write. For those that didn't know, I decided to leave town for the weekend. A previously arranged vacation to Orlando finally came to fruition this weekend.
The trip started out like crap. We woke up at about 9, I was ready to go by 12, but thanks to a parental unit who decided to pack everything in the known universe, we didn't hit the road until about 2 (accounting for the fact that we had to make a couple of stops before leaving). I admit, for driving that far for the first time, it was a piece of cake. Didn't run into a lot of traffic until well onto I-4, so it took an extra half an hour. Checked into the hotel, it wasn't "perfect" (balcony w/view of pool). So we raced to another hotel, it was "creepy" (?). An hour later, we settle in. Call Amadeus, no answer. Go out to eat at The Crab House, wind up waiting over an hour for my sister. Eventually had a good time.
Saturday, wake up at about 9:30, ready to leave at 10:30, don't leave until 12 (see above). Tried to go to Universal Studios, get slightly lost, go back to the hotel. Sit, and sit, and sit. Call Amadeus 3 times, nothing. Finally returns call, he claims to have only received one message, and is in transit to Cocoa Beach. Trip is officially shot. Go to eat at Friday's, watch game, great time.
Decide to leave Sunday instead of today, find way to Universal Studios. Shell out extra $5 for preferred parking, get to park at about 10. Pay for express passes ($10 off compared to Saturday, we catch a break). Maximum wait in line is about 15 minutes for any ride. Saw the major attractions and went on the major rides, pwned MIB Alien Attack (and got a bad ass picture of it), plan on going back to improve upon performance (143,100 isn't enough when you can spot 3 people who did better). Had a fanboy moment (details coming), decide to leave at about 3, get home around 5:30. Was complemented on driving and navigational skills several times, unpacked, crashed. After two and a half days and 3/4 tank of gas, it was worth it.
As far as the fanboy moment, I must first officially revoke the right to talk smack about what happened with Coffee Shop at AFO. That said, while at Universal I got to take a picture with Doc Brown and Marty from Back to the Future, it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up (and now it's my cellphone wallpaper). In taking said photo, I naturally say "1.21 GIGAWATTS!!" Three things I promptly hear: "No more, no less!!" "Great scott, Doc!!" And finally, as I'm walking away, the best moment. "That guy must be a scientist, he knows exactly how much power flows into a flux capacitor." BEST! MOMENT! EVER! That is all.
I'm making arrangements to return for Halloween Horror Nights, a select few will be invited. Film at 11.
