Pardons Canada.
Ok, so for those non Canadian people out there, over the past year and a half there have been adverts on Canadian TV channels for having your past criminal records cleared. I'm finding it a little annoying...
I've always been under the idea that if you do something wrong that you should be punished and be under the consequences of what you have done. So, that if you have done a crime that you have to do the time. It should be that simple. At least I thought so...
A person I used to go to school with, Doug (He is a couple of years older then I am but was a year behind me), was charged and guilty at 16 for selling drugs, assault with battery, theft, drinking and driving as well, breaking and entering. He was sent to a group home, community service, lost his license for 2 years.
At 18, his record was cleared under he young offenders act, and got his license back.
At 20, he was in was found guilty of assault, selling drugs, and damage to property.
At 24, he was found guilty for domestic assault and battery. Drug possession. He was also bared from traveling outside of Canada.
I was informed today, that at 34, he applied for a pardon and got one. He can now go outside of Canada.
His parents, have just purchased a winter home in Florida. Gee, I wonder where he's going to go now.
Now, hear is my annoyance. Why are these Commercials being aired? I mean, that is my tax money going to pay for them... With the past problems some of these people had, why are they getting pardoned?
Honestly, I can understand if it's petty vandalism, or public drunkenness when you have a relatively clear record. But when it's a history of offenses it's not a good thing..
I think it's wrong, I think it's a waist of money, and I think it's pretty stupid because people don't change over night and Mr. Doug has not been charged with anything in a while, sure, but from sources that can be trusted, he's just not been caught...
Why oh why can't we just like you know... Toss 'em into prisons and then hack up their bodies for spare parts for organ harvesting..
But OH NOOOOOOOOO... That would be "evil" and "wrong"... Sheaseh..... Pussies I say...
