Dear Uncle Cedric;

The pattern on the prayer rug is incredibly intricate. It currently resides before my favorite chair in the withdrawing room. It is truly a testament to the skill and patience of the afrindi weavers in the hills there.

This past month has been one of a great many changes uncle. A few weeks ago I found myself in the position to compromise on my basic beliefs and attitudes. I did not. I stood firm and resolute in the face of opposition and pressure. Afterwards I had an acquaintance approach and label me "exquisitely stubborn and arrogant". They then took my hand in a firm grip and proclaimed that we were far too alike to _not_be friends. I believe that we are and shall continue to be.

I attended an odd gathering in the city last month. Met up with D----- there, he was on leave from his Battery. We spoke at great length about his training and the state of accoutrements. He was resplendent as usual in his undress uniform. We soon met up with his excellency Baron J--- just out side of the exhibition hall. We conversed a while and then retired with my companion and his company to a nearby brew-house for some light repast.

A few more hours of wandering and pleasant (if occasionally risque) conversation from the Brn J---, his lady A------ as well as D---- and his lady M-------.

My companion an I then retired to prepare for the evening's festivities.
Suitably attired and prepared an appearance was made at the soiree hosted by the great scholar V------ and his lovely lady Z-------. A great deal of fuss was made on my entrance, I had no idea my presence would make such an impression! I made the acquaintance of a great deal of people, most of whom I had only met in correspondence, All were even more charming in person. The party was a fabulous success. Unfortunately I was so distracted by the wonderful company that I neglected to collect my cup on my way out.

We returned the next evening and paid a visit upon V------, retrieved my cup and engaged in a lively conversation. A session of crowd watching, and then it was off to deliver a friend home.

I do fear that my enthusiasm for the Gentleman's Social Club is not shared by my acquaintances. While they do seem agreeable on the idea, I suspect it will not manifest in any way soon.

I have enclosed a new muffler knitted by L----, she worries that you are not keeping warm enough in the Hills.

as always

your most loyal nephew,

tuan
