The overall message I've been learning this past year was summed up fairly well today:
God loves you just the way you are. God also loves you enough to not leave you where you are.
I interpret it to be that God loves me enough to help me grow stronger in my faith, which is worth more than gold.
"Though now for a little while, you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These trials have come so that your faith- of greater worth than gold...may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed." 1 Peter 1:6-7
