As if you can't tell from the subject, I'm upset.
So, to those of you on
chenzel_love you might be interested in what I have to say. All others... well, you're on my flist, so you obviously like me, so you might be interested, too.
Please note that I am currently typing with a false calm that will disappear as soon as you click on the cut.
Thanks.
(
False calm no more... )
Not a problem... if I didn't want people to see it, I woulda made it friends only [g]
Having the hub would allow her to send people there if she felt their posts were too OT on be on chenzel_love. Your comm actually would allow her to redirect people without seeming rude about it.
Exactly! It's like... on Yahoo groups, there are 3 groups for Imzadi stuff... Imzadi_Pro for adults, Imzadi_All for everyone, and the Zadiland_Cafe, for off-topic stuff. So that if someone posts something adult to IA, they get directed to IP, and if someone goes too off topic, they get directed to the cafe.
I would really think that she would want to "endorse" these comms since they allow her to run her comm the way she wants and it's the same subject matter!!! (it's not competing...)
Yeah, but I think she sees it as competing, especially because I started the communities after one too many brushes with censorship on her comm LOL
And I do think that if a mod is going to insist on rules, those rules need to be made clear (what is, or isn't allowed, which comms are endorsed, etc.) and the mod needs to follow them herself if she wants others to respect the rules.
Yep. But then, she doesn't need people to respect the rules, she can delete posts and ban members if she wants. [shrug]
All this being said, I don't know what it is like to mod a community or what challenges are involved with being a mod
Not a whole lot, if you run a community like I do. (AKA, little to no rules LOL)
I can't tell you how happy I am to have some support in this, from someone I've never met before LOL It's like... "Dude... it's not all in my head" LOL

I would be willing to bet you that there are more people at chenzel_love that share this same *cough* displeasure with the current events there. But I will bet most who feel that way won't say so publicly. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous to post something that openly attacks a specific person, but you had the balls to say what I've been thinking and the least I could do was tell you so and back you up.
I have a feeling that unless things really start to change over there, people are going to be, for lack of a better word, boycotting that comm. And then the comm's will be competing... not as a result of the fact that you created them, but as a result of the fact that she made the new ones a taboo, and in doing so has offended people.

As much as I hate to say it, I hope so. Because no matter how unfair things are, they never change unless and until people do realize that they're unfair.

[g] Thanks. And it's not like I'm posting this to chenzel_love itself, so even if caesar reads this... Who cares? She can't do anything about it, and she sure as hell can't ban me for something I posted on my private journal [smirk]

Well, caesar and fresh_tart had a conversation today, and caesar should be emailing me sometime soon, to hopefully sort out the whole endorsed communities thing. So there's a possibility that we might end up as sister comms, which would be really nice.

True, but I know I was thrown off by the contradictions in her posts and within the comm. And I think uncertainty can cause fear, which just ends up hurting the comm in the end because people end up sitting down an going "Hmmm, I had better try to censor this before hand so I don't get bitch slapped..." I mean this has crossed my mind and I haven't even written anything for the comm (which everyone should all be grateful for. I've tried. It was miserable. I will be leaving the writing to the talented people) :)
It would definitely be an ideal situation to have harmony between the comms. They are meant to compliment each other. Having the mutual endorsements between the comms would be the best way for this to end.
That being said, I don't think that alone would solve all the other contradictions. Fixing the endorsement issue is just a band-aid for the root of the problem. I still think that if she is going to be very strict with rule enforcement, then she needs to let the comm members in on what those rules are. Because that is how this started in the first place: unclear guidelines.
And I realize that not every issue that comes up can be viewed as black and white, but when the gray area becomes as muddled as it has gotten, people need clarifications. And I don't think that they can be done on simply a one-on-one basis. Right now, considering there have been questions openly posed in the comm (like in the comments of mldrgrl's last story), I don't think people should have to ask her personally to explain everything. I think all these explanations that are going on need to be publicized so that everyone is on the same page. Then she won't have to run around trying to appease everyone and fix the situations behind closed doors.
While it is a mods job to regulate a comm, comms wouldn't exist without their members, and I think those members have a right to know what conclusions and solutions are being made so that everything can once again run smoothly and the same issues won't pop up again.

These a pretty personal attacks being made over modding issues.
